Benjamin 392 blues

I just saw the baker airguns video about the new 392 and 397 synthetic stock and was sad to hear they are discontinuing the wood stock. The plastic stock looks decent for scope eye hieght since it has a raised cheekpiece but I think the big man is right about it not lining up great with the open sights. I can tell that he is right and now I regret not getting one. Im sure ill find one but deer season and turkey season prevents me from trying till after Christmas..... Does anyone else think this is lame?

... i thought this thread was gonna be about the (in or un)-accuracy of most any benjamin 392pa (safety on trigger , crosman-made benjamin)....i thought the new version 392s (synthetic stock) looked great , but i have never seen or shot one.... the benjamin 397/392s from just before crosman bought them (tab safety in back - like benji 342/347 , made in racine when the company was benjamin / sheridan / sterling) --- well they were the chromed - "silver" (392s , where the 's' means something different).... circa 1990-1992 ? -- these might look uglier but shoot harder and have the much more accurate benji / dan barrels (the sterlings had walther)... they usually sell that 392pa wooden stock version here at academy sports and outdoors for $139......i just kept taking them back when i was trying to find ANY .22 benji that would shoot as well or better than a sheridan bluestreak - even with 13.5 grain air arms .22 falcon pellet (jsb lites) vs. the favorite 5mm (.20 caliber) 13.7 grain jsb exacts .... i got one 342 w/ model 87 stock to do ok , but it was like a dime-size sheridan hole at 40 yard from bench w/scope compared to almost as big as a quarter from the modded, tuned, barrel lapped and even artificially choked....... i could feel the pellet hit tight areas and then areas with loose bore on every damn one of these new ones....i could never find one with a tight area at the muzzle... you can do a few easy trix on the 392 { use a $2 discovery valve pin instead of the stock one - better airflow = 50 fps increase on 11 pumps . .. and they are bigger, heavier, more powerful, better leverage on the pump handle.... they are easier guns to work on , and if i could an accurate 392pa , id keep one... if you found one that you like (i went thru about 6 at the sporting goods i mentioned - and gave up) and plan to keep... i can help you modd it up , raden.. - paul . ............ chrome model s397 data :

So rane are you suggesting that I find a sheridan bluestreak circa 1990 in excellent condition if I want decent barrel? Accuracy means way more to me than power. I wanted an accurate open sight rifle to keep in my car to kill squirrels. I liked the new 392 because it has the holes tapped for the williams peep sight. Its not a deal breaker tho. I like 22 cal but those sheridan 20 cals are really sweet. I have been really disappointed in my latest crosman barrels. I needed to do alot of work on the last 3 ive bought.

Wood stocked 392's are not hard to find used. I've gone to many gun shows and seen them. Accuracy? I don't think I've ever just sat down at the bench and shot mine for the smallest group size. So, how accurate is my 392? If I do my part, the gun will hit anything I shoot it at. The same as any of my five original Sheridans. Which of the guns are more accurate, one against the other? I don't really care if it hits what I shoot at. If I want small groups, I shoot my FWB 300s or my .25 Marauder.

.. not just the sheridans from the late 1990's , but it seems i just dont get rocker-safety barrels that dont cloverleaf with 13.7 gr jsb pellets .. i have had one that the guy shot rocks, bbs and anything he could get a hold of to shoot until he could get the yellow box or red box of .20 cals.. ......even when we were pre-teens in the early 80's , .20 pellets were hard to find ... we usually had to go into ft.worth and go into the mall (oshman's sporting goods)... so, that bluestreak would have a flyer out of 5 shots.........and i have NO experience with the accuracy of the sheridans made by crosman. i've resealed them, but never had one. and i , personally heard stories of .22 tootsie roll pumper being accurate enough to shoot dragon flies hovering over the water..... but , as for myself , i have never found any .22 benjamin to be as accurate as the two or 3 bluestreaks i have around.... maybe it's just my bad luck - idk....but after doing that 342 into the benji model 87 stock (which require a sheridan pump arm to align the forestock holes)....and trying all sorts of stuff... i gave up... - paul.
