Benchrest stock feedback needed

I am developing a benchrest design for the s400/500 series of Air Arms guns and as I have designed/built many for other brands. As I look around I see changes in some of the mechanical rests so asking for some feedback for width that most of you use/prefer for the forearms. The traditional standard has been 3" but see many stocks (mostly aluminum ones) that are much narrower and thus the mechanical rests are designed for that. Really thinking of making the design set up for various widths and that could easily be done with tooling setups at the time of cutting but would still like to get a consensus.
