Benchrest springer set up

It's best to place your open hand, palm up and forward of the trigger guard and/or balance point of the rifle. The back of your hand is on ANY type of support. This allows the rifle to recoil freely. This free recoil is best for accuracy. PCP is a different story since there is no recoil the forearm can be supported by typical bench rest products including a rear bag.

For off-hand 10 meter coaches recommend a fist/open hand hold forward of trigger guard/balance point, is required for achieving the same free harmonics required for recoiling piston rifles. Elbow against torso. The Way of the Rifle book/bible is a great source for offhand shooting.

martin,

I use the same MTM Predator Shooting rest for both PCPs and Springers. With Springers, I use cloth rags on both rubberized rest sections to allow for smooth recoil. Also, I make sure the rifle can move freely forwards and backwards, in the shooting rest, to allow for proper recoil. Wedging the rifle firmly in the rest works fine for PCPs, not for Springers. WM

Two dryer sheets one on top of the other on your front rest and your rear bag will allow your rifle to slide smoothly.I have found I can set up as with a normal rifle the forehand on the bag in the first 3 or 4 inches and atn25 yards shoot an a9verage 5 shoot group of a bit under .2. The most important issuebseems to me having little or no contact with the butt against the shoulder, lightly touching the stock with your cheek, and not wrapping your thumb over top of the the stock at the trigger. Then pulling the trigger with straight back pressure, no left or right influence.

For 25M springer class, it's hard to beat the FWB 300S. Here's mine. I usually shoot off a sandbag.
