Benchrest Question

An elementary question.

When shooting from a benchrest, how much pressure is placed on the rifle in terms on downward force on the grip and forward force from the shoulder? Is it minimal so the rifle can recoil, or is it firm to hold the rifle in place.

Sorry for such a novice question.

What kind of rest equipment are you shooting from?

i shoot hunting type rifles and touching the gun as little as possible seems best to me so far?
i hope you get some more ideas.

there are as many answers to your question as there are BR shooters
everyone finds their own thing that works best for them
some like to use only the pressure of their thumb to hold the gun in position
some like to snug up shoulder and grip, probably from a bigbore firearm background
i also use a JJ rest & same as PlanB only touch the trigger
