Bench rest choices

Hey all. I've been looking at the myriad of choices in bench rests, trying to settle on one. I'd like to get some opinions of what you look for, features you like, even specific suggestions on models. I like the bald eagle I have the aluminum one for the rear I use a rabbit ear sand bag. You get better controls they the all in one type

Bald Eagle here too. Love it. Inexpensive and rugged and heavy (cast iron version). No matter what you choose, I highly recommend keeping the front rest totally separate from the back rest. In other words, so that you can adjust the height of the front independently of the rear. Your one-piece proposal won't be as adaptable as separate pieces. But it's your choice. It's good that you asked those who have experience.

I just bought the Bald Eagle rest and am very happy with it. I did modify it to make the windage controls easier to use though. A couple minutes of time and it was ready to go.

For casual shooting, what you suggest is ok. If you intend to shoot competition, then you might want something better. The Bald Eagle is your entry point. Then there are more precise rests like Randolf, Sinclair, SEB, Hart, Viper and others, but get your wallet out.

Gave one of these a whirl a few weeks ago. Like you, I wanted to try something new and different.

Long story short, I boxed it up and returned it after shooting only a couple dozen shots.

The whole rig shifted right and left as the rear fine elevation knob was tweaked. So while trying to dial the elevation just right, the windage would move around at the same time.

Trailryder, if you're just looking for a rest to shoot better groups and not for compeition (which, from your post, it seems that you are) I would definitely say get the Bald Eagle. I've got one and they're great. One thing you'll want to do is get rid of the steel cable that works the windage adjustment and put a direct adjustment knob on the left side. Ask one of the other guys here how to do that. I did it, but couldn't effectively tell you how!! Big improvement.
