Beginner with MROD

Heyo!

First post.... And a request for help.

I've been shooting for my whole life, but new to air gunning. I've had a Benjamin Trail NP and then NP2 in .22 for the past few years. But I've reached my limit on distance with that, and have thus taken a plunge into the world of PCP. After much deliberation and YouTubes I decided to get a .25 Marauder. I've just ordered one from Pyramid Air last week and should see it soon! #excite!

I primarily shoot targets, but do hunt squirrels when time permits. I've found that beyond +- 30yds that the NP2 just doesn't have the accuracy or punch I need and am hoping for a less frustrating experience with the MROD in .25. Specifically it'd be awesome to be able to hit 80+ yd shots somewhat consistently.

So with that... what are the best beginner mods for the MROD that I should consider? I do have a chronograph, I've seen a lot of info about tuning out there... although most of it is from years ago and I'm aware that there are newer generation MRODs since then. What applies to the current generation? Also does the factory depinger work well?

Thanks!

I would suggest to shoot the rifle some and get used to it first.

Also, you can shoot a shot string across your chronograph and post the results here. Include the fill pressure, pellet weight, fps, e.s., etc.. Then get advice if any adjustments to the string are necessary - for the best accuracy.

Most may agree, the factory depinger does not perform well.

+1 on what Tim said. You will want to see if you are getting a bell curve or if it shipped "hot" from the factory, meaning starts off hot and drops continually thru the shot curve.

Oh, and Welcome Aboard Airgun Nation....

Mine came out of box shooting a pretty good 16- shot bell curve. See what numbers you get. But I think it will compare well to more expensive guns. My factory settings were good--and I hope you have the same experience. If you do not the gun is not tuned right. For example, my Discovery shoots hot. By about the fourth shot it is running in the 880s and after a few shots I get a steady drop.

Mod? I like a shot tray. Crosman does not make them for the .25, but Pyramyd has a plastic one that seems to do the job. Neither of my magazines are smooth and I feel the rifle is a little more accurate with the tray. But read the reviews. Not everyone has had the same luck. I do commend Pyramyd for including the negative reviews with the positive.

Not mods--but One thing you might try is different fill pressures. I've read that 2800 produces the best results. . Fewer shots, but less air to top it off.

Welcome to AGN.

Welcome Tex! May I suggest to start with 25gr pellets with your initial break-in and tuning such as the JSB 25.39gr. Most marauder owners had their share of tweeks especially with their 22 version. Which was what I started with but don't regret it one bit. Anyway, once we get your data, we can help guide you towards your goals. Good choice in getting the 25 Marauder and congrats on your first PCP :)

Some guns experience the barrel shift POI thing more than others. There are options such as the screw barrel band. Neil Clague wrote of using a section of aluminum tubing. He removes the factory O ring and replaced it with a section of aluminum tubing. It offers a tight fit and he says eliminated the shift. I read another one where some one sandwiched the factory O ring with two O rings I believe 15/16" ID X 1" OD. I believe I used a 15/16 ID with a 3/32" ring and then sandwiched it with two 15/16"X 1", A little silicone grease and a blunt tooth pick worked for installation. I was transporting the guns with a soft case, and having a difficult time producing the same consistent results. I tried them all and the last seemed to work very well. I don't have the caliber od Mrods nearby i'll correct if I screwed up
