FX Beginner with FX Impact M4 Extended

Hello all,

My name is Dutch from The Netherlands.

After a long time thinking I have decided to invest in a proper airgun: FX Impact M4 Extended.

I've went through a process of examening what I was looking for in an airgun and think that it can all be found in the Impact M4. It is modulair, can be tuned quick easily with proper understanding and without changing the riffle itself and is highly accurate. The last thing is very important to me because I would like to gain more experience when it comes down to high precision and long distance shooting.

Because I am a beginner to PCP air rifles (I used to shoot break-barrel) I am wondering if you people over here, have some tips before actively using the M4.

I did some research, but I would like to hear from people who gained practical experience.

So, first of all: did I made a good choice regarding I am a starter in the PCP world? What are the do's and dont's? Please consider the fact that I am a beginner and have NO experience with tuning at all. Definitly willing to learn, but step-by-step.

A warm welcome from Belgium. And a great choice for an airgun first advice: keep it tuned as from the factory for a while until you get to know your gun. You can tune a lot with an impact, but you can also mess up a great gun with a bad tune.

The impact is a finicky complicated mistress, it can be overwhelming but if you're technically capable and can deduce cause and effect I think you'll enjoy it.

An m3 was my first high end pcp and I made it. If you like taking apart everything in your home to see how it works you'll be OK.

I'm a big fan of the dreamline with the power wheel because it's simple, elegant and effectively powerful enough to do most anything if you're allowed fac power. If you want the utmost control of each parameter the impact is for you. Be careful what you wish for because everything interacts and it can be a steep learning curve but I love having a valve adjuster to really fine tune impact air use.

Yes, I am planning to keep it as delivered but was thinking; what if the seller does open the package before I get the riffle (I asked him to mount the scope) and changes some settings before I can write them down, how do I return them back to "factory setting"? Are there somewhere default values to be found?

Luckily you can find many tune "recipes" and use them as starting points to do final adjustments. For a year I was trying different things and doing a new tune every week and taking pages of data. I'm in the states so I was chasing a tune to rule them all, slugs up high and pellets down low. I caught the south African infomercial disease and went all slugs with it and getting that 75 fpe to be ultra precise took me some work. I will likely put the gun back to stock form in the next couple years and make it an ultra precise 700mm pellet shooter again.

The Impact is an easy, durable, air rifle to maintain, tune , and shoot.

My .177 M3 was my second airgun, is 4+ years old with the original AMP regulators.

I'm a "buy once, cry once" kinda guy (many times over ) who believes that it's worth waiting/saving to get good quality equipment.

The Impact is a PCP that you can grow with and if your retirements change you can adjust the power and/or caliber if needed.

Buy once cry once is the truth. Had I just done that I wouldn't have spent double. Buy the big bad gun, compressor, scba or buddy bottles and high quality optics. If you don't, you will be later.

For the passing readers, you don't have to do this all at once. A cheap Shoebox clone compressor with a converted paintball tank buddy bottle is relatively cheap(for this hobby) an increases your shooting enjoyment exponentially.

I chose to shoot my 1322 for 2 years and save for what I really wanted instead of compromising. The gun is fantastic box stock if you don't chase power and velocity numbers and the accessories pushed on youtube.
