Other Beginner 10m Air Pistol Men

Hi!

I’m new to the sport but would like to get started on the 10m air pistol. Just moved to the Kansas City area. I don’t think there’s an air pistol range around us.

Dreams of competing in the Olympics.

1. Where can I buy used air pistols? If I wanted to practice at home, is there a pistol that converts between air and electronic?
2. Where can I buy items to set up a home electronic range?
3. How do I look into competitions for mens 10m Air pistol?

Any and all advice would be welcome!

The Civilian Marksmanship Program in Anniston AL and at Camp Perry Ohio provide pistol matches and you are very likely to meet some Olympic level shooters. Aniston had Olympic team tryouts I think last year. Either location can provide contact information with willing participants and give you good information on rules, equipment needs and more. The first steps are learning what questions to ask.

This book: Pistol Shooting The Olympic Disciplines. I can't recall where I got my copy but this is the only place I find it in stock:

I read about this system in the above book:

When you ask AI what are the most popular legit Olympic air pistols the Steyr and Morini come up. They aren't cheap but they are cheaper than a bass boat.

I am a hack so have several old school Single Stroke Pneumatics (SSP). They are good enough for me and my 9.3M range in the basement.

Easy to set up a range indoors. I managed to find a 10m straight line in my basement. Be sure to secure pets and others from crossing in though.

Low velocity air pistol rounds are easily contained with a bucket of rubber mulch, etc. Single stroke pneumatic guns are extremely quiet.

Most places don't really have laws on airguns except in public places. Indoors, with something quiet like a single stroke pneumatic, you're probably good to do anywhere. Even if you're technically not allowed, no one will care, or and if they wanted to be a dick, wouldn't be able to do anything. If someone knocks on your door, put it away and go answer. Don't need to let anyone inside to see.

You sound to be very serious about getting into competitive 10 meter pistol shooting.

A top quality 10 meter pistol is not cheap but (IMHO) they are very reasonably priced considering that you can get an Olympic quality pistol for around $2,000.

If you have never shot a quality 10 meter airgun, be prepared to be impressed!

I'd recommend doing a lot of research into the discipline, the level of training/dedication needed to compete and the equipment and accessories required to do so before committing to a purchase.

There's lots of entry level 10 meter pistols available but I believe in the "buy once, cry once" approach... you will end up with a top level pistol eventually so you might as well save the intrim steps. 😉

If you still want to pursue competitive 10 meter shooting I'd recommend investing in a competition level pistol right of the bat. These pistols feature multiple adjustments that let you tune the grip to exactly to your hand and hold. If your interests change, these pistols retain their value well.

I like Feinwerkbau products, I'm not into competing but I target shoot their old model 100 SSP and a P8x PCP pistol over the winter... I will admit to plinking with them over the summer months. 😁

There are several other excellent brands as well.

Good luck in your journey!
Cheers!

You are going to need to shoot a lot, I mean a lot and dry fire. You will need a good pistol and you will probably need: https://www.scatt.com/collections/shooter-training-systems-kits

I would think there must be a decent 10M shooter in the KC area. Maybe Ft Leavenworth?

I have 6 old school 10M SSP air pistols and they are fun for me to shoot.

All top level 10M air pistols are made in Europe. The tariff war may affect what you can get. Also you need someone who can support your equipment. If you are in the US these folks might be able to give you some advice: https://www.champchoice.com/mc-airgun/air-pistols/?count=60
