Beeman R98

What happens when a Beeman R9 .22 meets a HW98 stock and .22 shrouded barrel? You get a Beeman R98!

I ordered the .22 98 barrel from Chambers way back when I purchased the HW98 in .20 for fear of hating the caliber, but the .20 is perfect and the spare .22 has been just that, a spare sitting on a shelf for over a year. My HW98 is currently broken down awaiting a new stock from Craftsman Vit so decided to get creative.

Today was not at all ideal conditions to be pellet testing but I did it anyway. Temperatures in the 20’s with 10-15mph winds, had to take a few breaks and warm up in between groups.

I was most surprised by the JSB Hades, I only have one other rifle that shoots them decent. Taking the wind and temperature into consideration I think the barrel is pretty solid. Ran the pellets over the chrony this morning and these are the results:

FTT 730fps 17.3fpe
Hades 700fps 17.3fpe
JSB 18’s 635fps 16.2fpe
JSB 14’s 695fps 15.4fps
JSB 16’s 675fps 16.1fpe
AA 16’s 680fps 16.1fpe

This rifle is running a vortek PG3 kit and seal and has been a pleasure to shoot since it was installed and has about 5k rounds through it.

That is a killer setup !! Nice job !!

The "Beeman R98" as it's known today was known as the "Marksman Model 56 and Model 58" years ago because I've owned both of them. I also switched out the action from one to the other that's known as you see them sold today as the Beeman R98 and R11. They're the same ole song but someone else is singing them. "Been there, done that."

Ps.....I forgot to say that the Model 56 had the FT stock with the adjustable cheek piece and butt pad with a muzzle break. The Model 58 had the bull barrel with a standard stock. JFYI

Had the 56 myself, used it for silhouette shooting, worked very well !!! However my 56 did have the bull barrel on it, came from Marksman when they were making guns

Just for clarity, Marksman didn't build these. They were Weihrauchs with allegedly some BSF borrowed/designed parts and rebranded by Beeman.
