Beeman R9......which caliber to choose 🤔

I am getting ready to place an order for (3) new rifles in a couple weeks:

1. Weihrauch HW50S (.177cal)

2. Beeman R7 (.177cal)

3. Beeman R9 (caliber ?)

I currently own an Air Arms TX200 (.177), Weihrauch HW98 (.22), SIG ASP20 (.22) and am looking to round out my Airgun inventory. I had a Diana 48 in .22 but didn’t care for it much compared to my other rifles so I sold it to my oldest son. I didn’t get along with the side cocking mechanism too well or the balance of that rifle. It did shoot accurately though. It’s the R9 that has me stumped. I just can’t decide on a caliber ! 🤦‍♂️. I’m actually thinking of possibly a .20cal but pellet selection is a concern as they don’t have many flavors in that one. I would like to hear other’s input and first hand experiences with the R9 and the calibers used. Being here in the USA, am not constrained by FPE restrictions so I can have whatever I want power wise. At some point down the road I’ll add a HW97K .177 to finish up my stable but the R9 and the other two rifles mentioned above have priority at the moment. Thanks in advance for the input 👍

I owned an R9 in .20 and foolishly sold it in a moment of temporary insanity.

I recently bought a R9 in .177 and it is a laser, but I will own another R9 .20 in the future.

I have yet to see a HW .20 that wouldn't shoot the FTT's or the JSB's.

The HW95 Luxus at AOA is basically the same gun as the R9 and can be bought now with free shipping and no tax and will save you a little money.

I also want one springer in .22, just don't know which one yet.

You have chosen three fine guns.

.20 all day. Hw does 20 cal great justice. All the guys that have them at my club love them. They all use ftt or jsbs as stated above and they are accurate. I mean pcp accurate. Maybe not out to 150 yards due to power but those guys usually do just as good as dudes with high end pcp's in ft competition. I like the idea of doing everything with one gun hunting, plinking, competition. You can really get to know your gun well.

Given your current collection and plans to buy a .177 hw50s and R7 (I own and like both a great deal), an R9 in .20 would nicely round out your collection.

I am a huge spring gun fan and prefer .177. The only spring gun that I eventually sold was my R1. IMHO, the large 30mm compression chamber just make for a harsh shot cycle at any power level.

. 20 is sweet. Downside is what others claim as low selection of pellets. IMO there are plenty of good pellets in the selection that are shooters. The need for more selection has brought a few new ones. If the .20 demand would grow, which I do see more interest lately there would be more different pellets offered.

I have no problem with what we have in finding a pellet that will shoot out of any .20 being a spring gun or pcp. The more offered is more money spent seeking a magic pellet that ends up with a bunch of pellets that you will not shoot on the shelve. 

The R9 will make a good mid powered .20 IMO. The .20 is a longer pellet than most realize. This gives more bearing surface that should stabilize the pellet but does take more power to push the pellet due to beating surface. Also better BC than a .177/.22. Love the .20 in a spring or PCP. All just my opinion! 💀

I just bought the HW95 Luxus from AOA and it has a very good barrel in .177. I was considering buying the .20 but I couldn't see the benefit of shooting JSB 15.89 gr. when I already have JSB 15.89 gr. in .22 for my other guns. Shooting the 13.43 in .20 would be nice compared to the .22 version as the .22 has thin skirts.

In my case I already had .22 well covered and I was replacing a .177 springer that I had completely wore out. If I had other .177 options already, I would have gone .20 for sure.

In the OP the HW98 and the ASP 20 would rule out an HW95 in .22 anyways.

i had the r-9 in all 3 calibers,sold the 22 and 177. the previous owner ( a friend) told me he really liked the 20 cal and asked if he could buy it back,so it left but if i get another it will be in 20 cal. i had all the calibers in the rws 48's, the only ones left in those are 2 20 calibers and a 25. once you get a 20 cal in medium or high powered gun you will like it !

Being the new owner of jusanothajoe's moment of temporary insanity, I'll happily agree with everyone saying get one in .20. I'd already been looking at the 95 when I saw the ad for his and it was a no brainer. He told me when I bought it the H&N FTT's were the best in it and he was spot on. I've tried all the rest owning every pellet made in .20 (I own 5 .20 cals) while a couple come close, they're the best. Out to the 30 yards I shoot, it's a laser and deadly to anything I set the crosshairs on.

Any r9 is a good choice but i like the .177 with jsb 10.3 @ 800 fps. Better bc then jsb 8.3 for down range performance.
