I started to install a Vortex PG4 Steel kit in my R9 today. The rifle was over lubed and the spring broken. What I ran into was the steel sleeve on the rear of the Vortex kit measures .850" OD and the R9 piston measures .825" ID. I don't know if Vortex makes a smaller steel sleeve or I will need to purchase a new piston.

There is a split in the coil insert. Just get a tiny blade screw driver under it to where you can grab it with a pair of needle nose pliers. It will come right out.

Just slides in and out of the inner piston wall..

I removed the sleeve, now I'm going to need one of the new style cocking shoes.

Vortek did have them .. little pricey but ashame you did not know to throw one in the cart with your spring order to save the shipping .

I've used ARH several times, have a Vortex kit in my R7 which shoots Crosman Premier Lite pellets at 630 fpe and is very smooth.

630 fpe out of an R7? Wow! I normally only get 8. Sorry I'm being a dick. I couldn't help myself. You obviously meant fps.

Well duh, my fingers don't know the e key from the s key.

ARH kits tend to last longer,the newer cocking shoe on my old style R9 resulted in me having to elongate the cocking lever opening about 3/4" So a word to the wise, be sure to cock your R9 slowly to see if the new style cocking shoe is going to work without some "woodwork"

I put one in backwards by hurry up goof and had that.
