I picked this neglected Santa Rosa R7 .20 up last night with a Blue Ribbon SS-1 scope. No sights but a vintage Beeman honey dripper break. Scope is missing one of the turret covers. Metal is well freckled and stock needs a refinish. Thing is filthy.

Shot a few JSB .20 13.7grn over the chrono and it was getting 400 FPS. Feels really smooth.

Should be a fun little project.

Nice find. I have a Huntington Beach version the girlfriend won an Ebay auction for and gave me for our 2 year anniversary. Haven't opened it up but appears to be all original, unmolested and silly accurate with both FTT's and JSB's:

-H&N FTT's: Average 554, ES 11, SD 3, 7.78 fpe
-JSB Exact: Average 497, ES 20, SD 6, 7.53 fpe

Look forward to see the after pics when you're done :)

I remember going into the Beeman Santa Rosa showroom when I was a 10 year old boy. Oh my, what a great showroom, I was in awe. Shortly thereafter, I got my first R1 for my 11th birthday. My friend had one too, that he got for his 11th birthday a few months prior. We shot those guns every day after school for years. I sold it when I was in college because I wasn’t using it and needed the money. I’ve regretted it ever since! There was one in the classifieds the other day, I almost pulled the trigger but I’m saving for a Daystate that will certainly get used more. Just something about those old Santa Rosa and San Rafael Beeman’s though. I’d love to see your gun again when you finish cleaning it up.

Gordon——Do you live up here in Nor Cal somewhere?

Stripped the R7 down and started cleaning it up. Almost all the rust was light enough I was able to get it off with some fine steel wool and oil.

I also got the stock sanded down to raw. The checkering was messed up so just went ahead and removed it. Still debating if I’m going to stain it or leave it blonde. Almost like a miniature R1 Laser.

I have new seals, lube, tar and RLO on the way from Macarri.

My parts came from Maccari today. I still need to apply the RLO to the stock but the color is on.

With new seals it’s shooting 320 FPS with JSB 13.7 gr. I didn’t want to pop for a full kit not knowing if the barrel was any good. Kids had it so who knows what they were shooting out of it. Guessing they didn’t have any .20.

After a few hundred more shots if it hasn’t picked up the pace I will order a spring. Goes without saying at this level it shoots really smooth.

The old honey dripper was looking beat. I think they used it to hammer nails. I have it a quick soon on the drill press and polished it some. I like the silver and black so not all bad.
