Beeman R7 Reacquired - Optics and Mods?

Funny enough, I just bought back my Beeman R7 from the guy I sold it to 3 years ago...all completely unknowingly.

I have forgotten all the mods out there, as I had deleted all my bookmarks.

-Think I will do a Rowan set back trigger, prob a flat blade....unless there's something else I'm not aware of.

-Sights - I have bad astigmatism in both eyes, and iron sights can be very difficult for me to use. Thinking about Williams peep w/ a large rear aperture. Or maybe a low power scope? Thoughts?

-Still will need to throw this on the chrony to see if a spring kit would do it any good or not.

Open to any and all suggestions for any mods or things to consider.

I have an HW30 .22 that wears a Williams peep, and an R7 .177 that wears a Hawke 2-7x32 IR, both are very fun to shoot, I mainly plink with the .22 and shoot paper with the scoped R7. I guess it depends on what you will use the rifle for.

It'll be used for a little bit of everything, as vague as that sounds. If I need to pop a squirrel, punch paper, or or do whatever. I am not a competition shooter.

Love mine,I like a smaller good quality light weight scope,7x or less.

I also want a larger AO bell, nothing smaller than 32mm or over 42mm....

I have had mine since 1981;first rebuild had a JM kit in it,liked it,than next rebuild put a Vortex kit in it,it has a different firing feel to it with the Vortex kit...they are both good rebuild kits....

After 40 years of use my trigger is perfect....back then they had no safety.

How does yours fit you?I sometimes need to put an adjustable butt plate on some of my rifles in order to get a good fit...I have a long neck and need to usually raise my rifles up in order to have a comfortable sight picture......

BTW,some people use a Red Dot for shooting at closer distances, may help you?

Well I have to say the peep is a lot of fun and plenty accurate enough to pest 20 yds or so. My eyes aren’t great anymore but I can use the peep, notch rear sight not so much. That said the scope will be more accurate for shooting groups but the peep is faster to acquire the target. IMHO

FWIW, here is how I have my 90's-vintage R7 set up: Williams FP-AG (no target knobs), Gehmann adjustable-opening iris, mounted in a simple adapter (arrow) for fitting the larger German threads to the Williams. Front sight is the original fixed post seen on these older guns.

The gun still has its original piston seal, with new breech seal, all pushed by an older JM kit. It is fast, smooth, and laser accurate with JSB 7.3 domes and the JSB-made AA Falcon.
