Beeman QB chief for grandson???

I dont have the Chief, but based on my tube conversions of the QB78, they are super nice little rifles. Troy Hammer did a nice write up on internals: http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=127095.msg1246290#msg1246290

Although its lacks compatibility with the CO2 versions, it appears simmilar mods will have similar effects. Other than improving efficiency, your easiest way is hammer spring tension and fill pressure to adjust for power. Easy to shoot, accurate, and maintain, let alone modifying, can make this a great shooter for anyone. Being light and not too long means it is also easier for smaller statures.

That tank seems listed as 2216psi??? Not sure if thats true, nor am I sure about "tested to 3700" as when hydro testing they are tested close to the upper limited, not usable limited. If it is 2216, you wont get many fills on a 2000psi rifle. But, if tuning to shoot at say 1500psi for lower power, you will get a few more fills. I think for a few dollar more, you might do better. For example, I picked up a 2014 4500psi take for $60. Some charge by 1000psi increments or volume, but my shop charges per fill, ie whether filling to 2000 or 3400psi was same price. In that case, would have cost more with a lower pressure tank.

Don't have a chief, have read everything I can find as the QB platform is outstanding!
At first the Chief seemed like it could be the coraisr brought back ( hi-power QB/HPA) but no.
Seems as very low power and HARD - needing machining to - hot rod, maybe low power is what you want though.

Dollar for dollar a QB79 - under $100.00 at big5 right now, likely elsewhere- and regulated Ninja tank - $59.95 delivered- would give the youngster a better shooting exp. Would work just fine filled to 2,000 tho the tank is 3,000psi.

Keep us posted.

Seems easy 18-20fpe in .177, which may be considered respectable power in .177, depends on your reference. I suspect 22-25fpe in .22 out of the box as well. Typical is lack of a curve, but heavy modding may be relative. QB78 was actually my first PCP converted from co2, handed down to my wife. QB79 is an excellent idea and option, I personally did not want a bottle to better replicate trigger time for comparative 10/22 and 17HMR, oncluding noise so the wife and kids would become accustom. That QB 79 can provide more shots as well. Either way, its a sub $200 and these have lots of options in modding and most are simple.
