HW/Weihrauch Beeman 77 MK1 ball detent fixed

Just when the accuracy was really coming around this popped apart while shooting it. I think I found all the parts. Luckily none of them fell through my deck into the inaccessible space under it.
Time to find a fix for this.

Rubber band or hair tie , while you find a fix. rubber band and just roll in place to hold .
Thanks it's in the gun rack until I find a proper fix. I got plenty of others to shoot in the interim. It could probably just be restaked. I just want to make sure there's no better fixes first.

Be well
Ron

Don't you just stick the spring/ball bearing back in and peen the casting to retain the ball? Someone said it's good to be gentle when closing the cocking lever?
Only front sight hood I've ever seen! Was that originally supplied on the early HW77?
Probably. I do flip it closed kinda hard. Off the top of my head closing it lifts the ball pressure off the peened edges. I don't understand how that closing it would cause it to pop it out. I'll have to take a closer look at it.

Thanks
Ron

the problem with the restaking the ball is where are you going to find the tool
you have a spring and a ball in a small opening and you have to hold down, see what you are doing and get a tool in that space and strike with a hammer
now if the assembly needs to come of why not update it to the MK lll style
i checked Chambers and Knibbs and the MKl and MKll are not available
you could make the tool i guess but you will have to get it right before the part is damaged past the point of fixing

I can use the front hole to keep the spring compressed and the ball will stay out of the way so I can restake the end with a narrow chisel. That's not hard.

I'm thinking more in line with seeing if I can fit some sort of retainer in there like a thin washer or and or circlip. Someone has to have a good fix for these. It's my understanding this is a common occurrence.

I will definitely reduce the spring pressure. It was excessive.

Thanks everyone
Ron

My McMaster Carr order came today. I ordered a narrow blade chisel and three press fit ball detents to fix the 77. I skipped re staking the OE spring and ball and took the easy way out. They all fit barely but only the one with the lightest spring force worked well. So well in fact it's nicer to shoot than ever. I circled the part number that worked. The two pictured loose were too stiff. The one that worked looks like those but half as long. Installation couldn't have been easier. I knocked them in with the aluminum bushing and a small hammer.

I love it when there's a simple repair. It's even better when it works better than before.

Be well all.
Ron

Invaluable information 👆

Glad to see it worked such a treat.
I never would have guessed that it would require so little spring pressure to secure the lever.

Congrats!
There's no opening pressure on the lever when closed so very little is needed to hold it there. Latching and unlatching was a lot more difficult before. It's an absolute joy to shoot now.

That's cool, Ron. You know I would have had to make my own, right?
Should be a Weihrauch recall bulletin?
Thought about you lately, waiting to hear how you made out.
