The weather sure is a crazy thing. -30 winds and snow last Thursday, 65 degrees today.
Was meeting the boss man at his house before going to the job site and decided to bring the Mega to sight in since I hadn't fine tuned it after converting from 22 to 177. His fence line is 40 yards from his deck, so I adjusted up from my 20 yard I set after conversion.
Went through a mag of shots to make sure I'm on. Hoped to get some morning squirrels, but they sat up in the trees over behind the neighbors where i dont have a safe shot. They just sat and barked. I counted 6 I could see, could hear a couple more back there. They know the routine by now, they see me or him, they stay away.
So i bag the rifle up for now and went to work.
Wind started to pick up mid day and is a good steady 15 mph NE by the time we got back to the house around 4. Go around back and with the rifle in tow, no squirrels yet. I see a big red tail hanging out in the tree, yeah I bet no squirrels.
So I spot a starling about 40 yards into the walnut trees behind the house. Hold over a mildot and 1 to the left, popped with a head shot. Find a sparrow back there to at about 45-50 and planted one in his back.
Watched the hawk fly away and waited maybe 10 minutes and I see this female gray pop out on a low branch that over hangs the yard about 30 yards out. First shot I missed because I forgot about the holdover... got excited.
I don't miss twice... quartering vital shot, sent a crosman hollow point into her at 925 fps, and she dropped like a rock. Pellet went in the right side just past the shoulder and stopped in the left rear leg.
She was a pretty girl, nice and fat from all those walnuts and acorns. Too bad it was only one, but I'll take what I can get this time of year.
Thanks for reading.
