BCSA (Binghamton, NY) - September 10th, 2022 Match Report

Broome County Sportsmens Association (BCSA) FT match….sounding like a broken record! Another awesome day! The 4th match in a row with near the same conditions as the previous matches. For a lot of us, the drive to the match had temperatures in the low 50’s, but at match time, the weather started out around 60 degrees with light winds. As the day went on, temps rose to around 75 with winds varying from light to moderate. Again………Sunshine….shadows….light winds….yet another awesome day!!

Late Thursday afternoon, Bill Campbell, my wife Pat and I went down to mow, trim and set a couple of slightly elevated targets. I went even further down to the back of the shelf this time around and pulled out a couple more old Pounded Paddle targets. During the match, squirrel behaved, but the bat caused a couple cold line calls………more on that in a bit.

On Saturday morning, all the strings were pulled and just as Pat and I were finishing up with that, Brian Van Liew pulled in. Brian has been missing for the last few months due to family commitments. It was great to see him back and he jumped right in and lent us a hand setting up the sight-in range. After that , we chatted while waiting for others to arrive. This time around we ended up with 15 competitors.

Sight-in and playing with the 30 at 100......

The course of fire was 10 lanes with 3 targets per lane. 2 shots per target with the shooting order being left, middle, right. There was also the usual 1 standing lane and 1 kneeling lane. The stats for the days 60 shot course are as follows:

We had 2 rare cold lines this time around. The elevated bat target got the string/cable caught on one of the pins a couple of different times throughout the match. The “under hand snoopy pole cast” couldn’t fix it, so cold lines were called an Pat ran out to quickly remedy them. During the first cold call, I also ran out to check a target that was questioned at the same time. A split was the issue and no other target issues or cold lines for the rest of the match.

Representing!

Last month in regards to Jim Danvers, I said “Pretty sure Jim either went home and got out the credit card or slapped together something else for next months match!”. Well, Jim did return this month and brought out his old Marauder! He did much better this time around. Unfortunately he was unable to complete the match due to being the professional photographer for one of the area high schools sports teams and had to run out early….. The school’s Varisty football team needed their photographer!!

Top score for the day went to Brian Van Liew with a 56 in Open PCP followed by Hunter PCP shooters Dennis Himes with a 53 and Bill Day with a 50. Close behind that group was Nathan Thomas with a 48 in WFTF Piston. Good going all!! The scores for the rest of us can be seen below.

After the conclusion of the rifle match, everyone jumped in and helped pick up and pack away the rifle targets and pull the strings for the pistol targets. Thank You All! We then held a drawing for another Pyramyd Air Gift card! Pyramyd Air has graciously provided $300 worth of gift certificates to use for prizes this season!!! Pyramyd has also provided our club with targets to be used at our matches! For the drawing, we put 5 tickets in a bucket (2 -$25, 2 - $50 and 1- $100) and drew 1. We will draw 1 each match until all are awarded. Today’s draw was for $50. Each competitor was given 1 ticket and after mixing up the tickets in the bucket, Janet Manktelow reached in and picked one. This time Bill Day had the winning ticket! Congrats!! We want to thank Pyramyd Air for their generosity and support and hope that you be sure to visit them for all your airgun needs! https://www.pyramydair.com/

We also did a drawing for a couple Noteworthy swinger targets. Paul Manktelow won the moose target and Brian Van Liew won the deer target ………Congrats!

We had 6 for the pistol/low powered non magnified/practice match! The non-magnifed competitors for the day were Doug Rogers and Louis Hopewell. 3 of us shot Hunter Pistol and Nathan Thomas shared my pistol so that he could shoot Limited Pistol. His 1720T decided to dump all it’s air. Paul Manktelow also participated a little. He was taking the time to do some standing and kneeling practice with his Daystate Revere.

The course of fire was 10 lanes with 2 targets per lane. 2 shots per target with the shooting order being left, right. There was 1 standing lane and the stats for the days 40 shot course are as follows:

And as always, after the match was finished, everyone remaining jumped in and we made super quick work of the cleanup! All the help is GREATLY appreciated! One match left for the year……………hope to see you there!!!
