BCSA (Binghamton, NY) - May 10th, 2025 Match Report

Broome County Sportsmens Association (BCSA) Field Target Match Report

The 2025 season has begun at BCSA! The long range forecast for match day was showing that we’d be in for a nice day which was a welcome sight after all the wet rainy weather we’ve had. One of our locals said he had 4”+/- of water in his rain gauge for the week! There was a slight break in the weather on Thursday, so the course and canopies were set up then. Friday was another all day rain. Below is a snapshot of what match day was like…along with sunny skies!

My wife Pat and I arrived early Saturday to start pulling strings and finalizing the pre match duties before the participants of the day arrived.

We had 15 people on hand for this match which was a 60 shot rifle match followed by a 40 shot pistol/10m/rifle practice match. John Cerne made is first trip down to our range, Tom Wade made a returning trip from down state and Nic Gregoris returned home for a weekend visit and decided to come to the match and spend the day with us.

The course of fire for the rifle match was 10 lanes with 3 targets per lane. 2 shots per target with the shooting order being left, middle, right. There was also the usual 1 standing lane and 1 kneeling lane. The stats for the 60 shot course are as follows:

The constant wind with even higher constant gusts definitely had the course in the 38+ DF. The breakdown for the percentage of targets based on difficulty was:

No cold lines! Surprisingly there were no issues after Friday’s all day soaking!

Between the wind and the even higher (pretty much consistent) gusts the course played tougher than it was set. There were targets in light unprotected areas and targets in dark protected areas along with everything in between! Brian Van Liew and Karen Reis were able to lock in high scores for the day with a 42 out of 60 in Open Piston & Hunter PCP . The second highest scores for the day were a 40 out of 60 from Rick Vaeth in Open PCP and Rich Sarama in Hunter PCP. The rest of us followed behind and all the scores can be seen below.

After the conclusion of the rifle match, while the scores were tallied, everyone jumped in and helped pick up and pack away the rifle targets and pull the strings for the pistol targets. As always, Thank You All, all the help is greatly appreciated!

Pistol/etc. Field Target Time!

The course of fire was 10 lanes with 2 targets per lane. The course stats were as follows whether shooting the course pistol, rifle-kneeling or rifle-standing.

9 people participated this time around. There was 5 Hunter Pistol shooters and of the 4 rifle shooters, 1 shot standing, 1 shot kneeling and the other 2 did a combo of standing and kneeling.

Unfortunately there was one quick cold line. One of the Remington targets lost a push nut on the linkage and the target wouldn’t stay up. A quick swap and we were back in business!

After the match was completed, everyone jumped in and we made quick work taking down the tarps and packing away all the targets! As always, all the help is GREATLY GREATLY appreciated!

A good start to the 2025 Season! There was a lot of pre match work behind the scenes from taking down trees, to winter damage cleanup, to new canopy frames. Again, Bill Campbell was there every step of the way doing what needed to be done and keeping the grounds up for us! Thanks Bill!

Thank you all that attended! We greatly appreciate you taking the time to spend the day with us at BCSA! We hope to see you and many more new faces for the remainder of 2025!!
