With prior commitments and vacations we had 15 people on hand for the day! Over half of the competitors that attended will also be attending the 2023 Finger Lakes Field Target AAFTA Grand Prix in Rochester next weekend. Rich and Brian Sarama made a returning trip and Eric Brewer made his first trip to BCSA this season. As is usual at an FT match, when people arrived, we all got caught up on the latest gossip thoughts and newly purchased equipment.

Case in point………..New Toy

The course of fire was 10 lanes with 3 targets per lane. 2 shots per target with the shooting order being left, middle, right. There was also the usual 1 standing lane and 1 kneeling lane. The stats for the days 60 shot course are as follows:

Decent but slightly muggy weather for the day! Temps started in the low 70’s and rose to the mid 80’s. Wind was light to moderate to non existent. There were no cold lines and everything flowed smoothly.

With the light and moderate winds this time around, overall the scores were pretty consistent compared to last month. The course was totally different but was varied so that it was a near identical difficulty compared to last month.

Last month, the top 10 scores ranged from 44 to 30 with only 1 score in the 40’s. This time around the top 10 scores ranged from 49 to 34 with 8 scores in the 40’s. Very interesting outcome. Next time, we’ll vary the course even more but stay at or near the same difficulty and see how it plays out.

The USFT squad ended in a tie……well actually there was an error and the scores were 2 points different so no tie. But, before the error was discovered, Stephan and Trevor took part in a little shoot off. The Stoutenburg Partridge has 2 killzones. The lower is used for the match, but for the shoot off, each was to take 3 shots seated at the upper hole and the best 2 out of 3 wins! The upper hole is 1/2” and with the target at 32 yards……….64T!

Trevor was up first and knocked in down twice. Stephan, who was dealing with scope issues and who probably really really wanted to just make a few clicks in windage adjustment knocked it down 3 times! Greg Shirhall came out with Match High……..with a 49 out of 60 in Hunter Piston. Second highest score for the day (Hunter PCP) was Chuck Senkus with a 47. Behind them was Rick Vaeth and Stephan Hottenrott with a 43’s then Karen Reis and Trevor Davies with 41’s! Congrats all! The rest of the scores can be seen below.

After the conclusion of the rifle match, everyone jumped in and helped pick up and pack away the rifle targets and pull the strings for the pistol targets. Thank You All! We then held a drawing to determine our 50/50 winner. This time we enlisted the help of Janet Manktelow to be the official ticket puller! After mixing up the tickets in the bucket, the winning ticket was drawn. The winner this time around was Doug Rogers…………CONGRATS!

We had 6 for the pistol/low powered non magnified/practice match! Eric Brewer and Chuck Senkus shot Hunter Pistol, Nathan Thomas shot Limited Pistol, Rick Vaeth pulled out his CZ S200 for some open sighted 10m action and Doug Rogers shot the whole course kneeling to get in some practice. Bill Campbell and Louis Hopewell pulled out their Crosman 1720T and Hatsan Jet both in carbine form for yet another carbine battle Royale! We did end up with 1 cold line. The linkage on 1 of the Remington targets decided to fall apart. A quick fix and we were back in action!

The course of fire was 10 lanes with 2 targets per lane. 2 shots per target with the shooting order being left, right. There was 1 standing lane and the stats for the days 40 shot course are as follows:

And as always, after the match was finished, everyone remaining jumped in and we made super quick work of the cleanup! All the help is GREATLY appreciated! Another great day to spend with our field target friends!
