BCA Buccaneer .177 - 1st shots out of box (FPS & Ft-LBS)

I've had it a month, but pneumonia kept me from trying it out.

I only did a velocity test and it was impressive.

Crosman Premiere Wadcutter's (7.4gr) - ave fps/ft-lb ...1061/18.50

Baracuda Power "copper-coated (0.65gr) - ave fps/ft-lb ... 917/19.89

The wads were barely under the speed of sound. I wonder if that is too much for optimum accuracy.

The Buccaneer is a wonderful rifle. Maybe a tad too heavy & the bolt a little too stiff on cocking.

Congrats, BSA barrels are best in class for accuracy and the gun has excellent quality build. Great unregulated consistency. I am hitting starlings at 100m.

The cocking needs to be done with determination but it gets lighter with time and with some (sparing) Ballistol.

The trigger is an excellent 2 stage. Recommend to swap out the set screw by a longer m2.5 to make it lighter.

Thank you, sir.

Try the JSB Monster originals if you plan on keeping it unregulated.

You may also try to remove the barrel band to see if accuracy improves.

I will. I haven't shot for groups yet, so we'll see. The Buccaneer will be used for desert jacks, on calm days. With any breeze/wind, I take out the DAR25.

Question: Why is it with shooting powder-burners, lighter, high-velocity ammo is favored in wind, because it gets to the target faster, thus less time to be deflected? Ex: the 17HMR is given the edge in windy conditions, over the 22WMR. The HMR is at least 1/2 the weight of the WMR. It is faster & flatter to the target by roughly 500fps.

Can someone explain why heavier & slower pellets are favored for the wind when the opposite is true for powder-burners?

I had my Buccaneer for about three years now,177.

It shoots best with the Baracuda Match pellets at 880 fps, three turns out on HS.

Was running pretty hot stock and most pellets didn't like that.

I'm afraid mine is running hot, also. I'll not figit with it, though, until I accuracy test the 4-5 different.177 pellets first.

Jim, is/was your bolt rather stiff and requiring a bit more effort?

Diabolo pellet design vs Centerfire bullet shape.
