Found a used one - no idea what one should pay for such a thing. 220VAC, single phase. Seller is asking $2000.

That's more than double what it's worth. That is a very old Bauer in poor condition. Check the ID plate for the date of manufacture. Looks to be from the 80's at the latest. Don't walk, run.

Agree. More trouble than what it’s worth, even for half the asking price. For that money you can get a Daystate - Coltri LC-110. But like @sonny says above, for another grand you can get the Alkin brand new...

I'd pass because of the wiring. Looks to be old enough that the 12/2 or 10/2 romex isn't properly color coded. Also, you can't use solid core like that in an extension plug because repeated stress movements can weaken or cause breaks in the copper, you're supposed to use stranded core. Hard to tell from the images if that's 12/2 which should be yellow or 10/2 which sound be orange. Also random fact, stranded core is better than solid core and can carry more current because of the AC skin effect and stranded core provides more surface area than solid core :)

Read-up, just saw BigRagu's post, yep exactly sir. Hack-job it seems.

For the same price you could get you a Daystate LC-110 which is based on the Coltri MCH-3 EM LC. I like the one I got and I'm not a reseller, advertising agent, "*****" (hate to use that word offensively, not intended), paid spokesperson, or someone who receives compensation in any way other than to share in the hopes it helps someone else make a wise purchase decision if they enjoy the hobby :)

It's ok to promote a product if you are pleased with its performance. Word of mouth from an owner doesn't make that person a *****. That's one of the main benefits of reading a forum. Good or bad, it's good to share owner feedback. Good products sometimes receive less good reviews than they deserve. Dissatisfied owners tend to be more vocal than satisfied ones.
