Barrel Pivot Bolt

I have two RWS 34's in both common calibers. My .22cal rifle has a problem with the barrel pivot bolt coming loose. My .177cal has no problem with this issue but it appears that someone put some kind of Loctite material on the threads of the nut. Any of you guys have this issue with any of your breakbarrel springers? Would Loctite 242 (blue) be the answer for this problem like it is for stock fasteners?

I have no idea but maybe able to act as a sounding board for any ideas you have lol. I’d try the blue if it’s really coming loose that easy. I’d have to research again, I just know I found that advice when I was searching for how to better secure and operate my break barrel at that time. You might just need to tinker and use your creativity and logic. Do you think it loosens up on its own over time or only while shooting? How bad are we talking here? Do you have a chrony? I think the 34 is around 13fpe average for the .22... maybe a tad more.

I think it comes loose during the cocking cycle. I'm just going to Loctite it and see what happens. This 34 shoots strong. Just ran 5 shots over the chrony with Sig Venom pellets (14.5 gr dome) for an average of 755 fps. 18.3 FPE. Stock guts.

Very good points. If cleaning and better sealing don’t work I’d look for replacement parts. Not to hijack but dang I/ we all could use a lathe!!!

Agree ! I worked in a shop for 20 years that had lathes and a mill. Last thing I made was a pellet sizer and multiple sizes of .22cal dies. I miss them !

I will look into the VibraTite. Been busy working on scope ring changes on my sig ASP20.

Maybe consider VibraTite because you can retorque it if necessary.

Thanks for the reply and the product suggestion. Is this the product you're talking about?

Yessir...you can get it in a small tube, too, which works better for me on airgun fasteners. I use that bigger bottle for automotive and motorcycle uses.

Great ! Thanks ! Do you just apply it wet and assemble or let it dry on the fasteners before reassembling?

Well, I finally got the tube of Vibratite VC-3 and used it on the barrel pivot bolt. Problem solved !! Instructions say to apply and allow to dry 10-30 minutes. This stuff dries very fast. I went ahead and used it on my forearm and trigger guard machine screw as well. I figured I needed a Torque screwdriver so I purchased this one. Torqued the forearm screws to 25 in/lbs. Trigger guard screw to 26 in/lbs. I got mine delivered for $94. I like it alot.
