Barrel lockup Lube

Don't you have to be careful using petroleum based products near the air port ? Don't want any detonation " dieseling " to occur.

In the chamber, certainly. "Near the air port" shouldn't present any risk IMO.

I saw a youtube video where a guy put a drop of oil behind a pellet loaded into the barrel just to produce dieseling. So detonation is a truth that can happen outside the compression chamber.

Certainly can't say that isn't true. I suppose it could happen but I've used it on multiple guns for a long time with no issue ever. Just a touch of the grease is all that is needed so how much could get to that specific area? Not sure. I'll keep using it because it works for me.

Just noticed Mike's mention of the Lucas Red and Tacky grease. I have a tube of that in the shop and have also used that for the purpose.

Certainly can happen. If you got anywhere near what he probably put on the rear of the pellet in there from lubing the detent then you would be using WAY TOO MUCH. As I noted, I use it and it hasn't caused dieseling in my rifles. If it's a concern to you then absolutely don't use it. As an aside, if that fellow makes more videos he may have fewer fingers to use to operate the gun and camera. I'd hold the barrel myself.

I started using "Tune & Lube" because it stays where it's applied.

I was finding that most grease would get moved away from that assembly since it's a spot that has a lot of shear force.

Can you elaborate on the product you use ?

"Use Tune-In-A-Tube to lubricate exposed spring coils and chamber, as well as other contact and wear points".

They explain it better than I can.

FYI.... I'm shooting a gas-spring rifle.
