Barn cat menu, starling vs HOSP

My barn cat will not touch the starlings, but completely devours the house sparrows. Normally with mice and chipmunks he will only eat the head. 
Anyone else with experience with barn cats rejecting starlings? Our barn cat is fed, but still loves to hunt and eat what he catches, at least the heads.

It seems like most animals won't eat a starling. They have a type of oil on their feathers that must leave a bad taste in their mouth.
