Bambi eats a bird / Graphic Viewing

Thanks Jim. Now THAT was interesting. I'm a big fan of bats. When I first moved to East Texas back in the late 80's, a local lake was "Lake Nacogdoches". At the time, it had the reputation of being a sleeper bass lake. Fisheries biologists determined in 1989 that Lake Nac had more 10 lb bass and up per volume acre than any other lake in Texas.

Problem was it also had a LOT of mosquito's. When bass fishing there at night you could either wear mosquito repellent in which case you wouldn't catch any lunkers because a big basses olfactory senses are just as sharp or sharper than that of a catfish ... OR, you could do without repellent as I did, catch the big bass and come back from the lake looking like a victim of leprosy.

Then around the early 90's, biologists set up a bunch of bat houses all over the lake, stocked the environment w/ bats and a year or so later, the problem of the skeeters was mostly solved. One might pick up a bite or two around twilight before the bats had come out of their houses, but by full darkness, everyone was protected for the rest of the night.

BIG Difference.

After that, one only had to put up w/ the gators, poisonous snakes, and alligator snapping turtles, when night fishing at Lake Nac.

The only advice I can give is don’t fall asleep in the woods or coral with an open wound. Some herbivore may be lacking something and eat you!

All too true.

Quote from ... CARNIVOROUS DEER? WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

https://www.rddusa.com/blog/carnivorous-deer-what-you-need-to-know/

Recently, National Geographic published a story revealing that trail cam footage of a human cadaver placed in the wilds for experimental purposes was actually partially consumed by a young deer during a time when heavy foliage wasn’t covered by a plethora of snow.

As alarming as this might seem at first glance, one thing to note is the fact that in the Natgeo article, the deer is only noted as actually consuming a rib from the human body. One of the reasons for this, obviously, is because of the high calcium content coupled with the fact that rib bones are fairly soft and pliable, especially on the ends.

In any event, I don’t think we are yet to the place where it is necessary to carry “deer spray” while out hunting like it is in some areas to carry bear spray. However, those days might not be far off.

Deer saves rabbit from hawk: Incredible Moment Deer Defends Rabbit from Swooping Hawk || Dogtooth Media

This brave deer went from Bambi to Rambo when it jumped in to save a wild rabbit being attacked by a hungry hawk.

Kris Miller was trimming trees around Nordic Mountain country park, Wisconsin, USA, earlier this month when he spotted a red tailed hawk dead on the ground.

After checking CCTV from June 11, the 29-year-old operations manager was 'astonished' when he saw the bird of prey swoop down on an unsuspecting rabbit below.

Gotta admit, this is a pretty bad azz vid. Especially given that we now know how dangerous carnivorous deer can be. That deer even had a buddy that wanted to get in on the action, (& share in the meat too, no doubt).

Deer eat meat. In nature, there's (probably) no such thing as a true herbivore, no matter what a vegan tells you.
This is something I always knew. Field and Stream even did a piece on this.

Turns out, deer like meat too. Need proof? Here is a roundup of man-eating deer, goose-eating elk, and four other carnivorous cervids

And here is a video of a deer eating a hawk, mis-labeled as "deer saves rabbit". The deer did not care about the rabbit, it simply knew the hawk was distracted, nailed it, and ate it.

Don't let a anti-hunter fool you - we are not made to go without meat, unlike deer we have canine teeth, which only go on meat eaters. Deer do not even have canines and they occasionally eat meat.
