Other BAM XSB51 Stock Options?

I recently purchased a nice BAM B51 (Daystae Huntsman clone) from a fellow forum member. This purchase was really just to get something to tinker with that I could mess up and nor feel terrible about lol.

I have some plans for the rifle, but one thing I want to do and am unsure of is change the stock. I'd love to do something to make it a bit more interesting and/or nice to look at. Nothing wrong with it, just plain old Chinese beechwood with some sapwood spots and bland brown color...

The B50 I owned way back when they first came into the US actually had a nice looking stock, but this one is pretty bland.

Has anyone ever done anything to the factory stock or made a custom stock for this cheap rifle? If so, I'd love to hear about it.

I know these have nor been available/around for many years, but I'm hoping someone may have done some stock related tinkering back then....

Way back when I stripped mine down and ebonized it. The beech isn’t the best wood for doing it, walnut comes out incredibly black.

There are videos but basically soak steel wool in vinegar. Get the oil off the wool first.

Make make some strong tea with a bunch of bags.

Wipe the tea on the raw wood. You can sand in between coats of tea to smooth out the raised grain.

With the stock dry wipe the vinegar on the stock. It should turn the wood dark black but you will still see all the grain. Wear gloves or your hands will also turn black.

If you happen to have an extra FWB P70 stock laying around they are not that difficult to modify for a Huntsman/Bam action. 🤣

Sorta what I did a few years ago .... Take a Diana 75 stock and place a JTS pcp action within it :love:

If one is creative & handy, restocking can be a very fun and rewarding project (y)

I do have a couple of other stocks I think could be modified to fit. My woodworking tools and skills are so-so... But maybe I'll give it a try. I'll have to see which one might make the best candidate.
