Ballistol on Wood?!

I buy Ballistal by big bottles and I fill smaller spray bottlrs and some in squirt bottle , I use it on fishing reels to guns and gun stocks , I use it on my loomis rods and my guides when I store them , I even use it during using lathe and casting bullets I use it to lube pins and pivots,

There is one more oil I do love it is called FP10 this is great for lubing ammo

This topic just showed up in a GTA post. Apparently it has been discovered that Ballistol on Diana stocks made after 2017 will cause the stock finish to degrade. It was the first I had heard of it..my recent model Diana 34 is not showing degradation...yet!

I always wipe my guns down after shooting with a rag lightly treated in Ballistol.

Has not done anything to my 48, it is about a year old.

One of those things that has been around for over 100 years now, worked through two world wars....figures now people would not buy into it.....guess it is not of fakebook enough for them or something.

I’ve used Ballistol for years on all kinds of wood finishes. Never seen any harm whatsoever from a light wipe down but I would hesitate to drench wood in it.

Absolutely my favorite stuff on metal parts though. Lasts forever and never gums up or feels too slick.

It’s mostly made from mineral oil which is pretty inert stuff, but does have some solvents and such added.

I think it behaves like it's got a little beeswax in it? Even when dry, it's slick like oil/wax mix. I like to take a new rifle and rub down the stock with Rem-Oil, let it soak in 24 hours, then wipe dry and let dry again. A couple rounds of that shined up my son's Optimus really nice. My GuideHawk NP too. But, older vintage stocks getting dark with dirt rubbed old varnish, oil finish, etc gets cleaner a bit faster with Balistol. Need a few more rubbings of it on my Marlin A1-C to make it look great again.
