Bad Quality Control

I've worked in manufacturing for 20 years, and unfortunately there is never such a thing as perfection. But there is a case for striving for it. One of the best companies I worked for was a Japanese-owned company that had ridiculous expectations to strive for perfection.

But unfortunately there are companies that strive for "perceived quality" over actual quality amd reliability. Sometimes just slapping a name or a sticker on something and upcharging for the product happens often. Not always, but often enough.

I am a big believer in "you get what you pay for" in some cases, but not always. I also believe there are exceptions to the very opposite of this. But there Will always be the human element involved at some point, and in that regard, mistakes can and will be made to some degree.

For the most part, talking to someone knowledgeable about a problem after the sale is rare, and returning a defective item is often more trouble than it's worth.

Add to that, that many MANY people are very low drama and would rather take a loss or just get over being disappointed instead of filing a complaint..... The number of those more than makes up for the number of "satisfied people that you never hear from".

Therefore out of every 10 complaints you can be assured that there are 20 more who just shrug it off, throw the item in a closet, and move on with their life. This stands true with $20k pieces of machinery just as it does with dollar store ball point pens.

Before I judge a manufacturer I want to know the percent of defects, the percent of injuries caused by said defects, . None of the manufactures will ever tell you how many air guns they make. But my guess is FX is among the top manufactures by volume and among the lowest in percent of defects. There was a manufacture who I thought Hand made his air rifles But was I suspect unable to keep up with his orders. I never read about a defect in his product, just the lack of availability. He sold his company with certain provisions to another provided they kept the quality up and increased the volume. People don't "complain" about guns that just keep going and going. People only complain about the one that doesn't. I have 3 FX rifles, bobcat Impact, and wildcat. I have a talon and 3 Diana break barrels. Since my first daisy about 28 rifles and pistols by benjamin, crosman, sheridan, daisy. and one Italian break barrel pistol. Had good luck with ALL of them mechanically. I had other kinds of problems with them which were not the manufacturers' fault. I finally got old so I enjoy my hobby, New vehicles cost 20 to 50 thousand now and some of their defects cause injury and loss of life. Exploding airbags and gas tanks, transmissions that self engage ect. I buy what I determine to be high quality guns from dealers who VALUE their reputations. They will always make it good. I've read here about dealers and FX even who must read this forum and get in touch with the individual the next day. Everyone wants xyz gun and the assembly line process helps make that possible. But the speed and machine assembly can contribute to defects. Hand made guns would be near perfect, take forever to get you your gun at a price of maybe $5000. Buying on line cuts the price, less brick and mortar stores to support, lower prices. Good manufactures test the gun as do good dealers. It would help a lot if everyone who had a good experience wrote in and said so. But many don't participate in these forums. So ever complaint will weigh more heavily then it should which is unfair to the manufactures. and misleading to future buyers. Before you get upset about a defect give someone a chance to make it right. My last 3 vehicles all had warranty problems but at least they were minor and involved only some inconvenience. They cost way more than a $2000 air gun

Agree totally.

Its me again, ya da yoopper on quality. Thanks for the great discussion on a subject that touches us all. As consumers, we all can share some of the blame for bad quality. Wether its from the contractor who doesn't show up at the jobsite on time, the checkout at Wally World who holds up the line while she talks to her friends, or the air gun maker that fails to put an o-ring in the regulator. My point is, we don't DEMAND quality service or products!

It's a fact that only one in ten people will ever make their complaints known to those responsible . I don't mean that we should yell at the waitress because the steak is raw. She didn't cook it! Go talk to the cook or manager and if they ignore you, don't go back, post it on YELP.com and make your friends aware of it. If everyone starts demanding quality by buying elsewhere they'll get the message. Thanks.
