RAW Rapid Bad day with my RAW

Received a 35cc plenum today for my RAW HM1000X LRT .30. Installed it and it leaks worse than a screen door. Changed the O-ring on the reg 6 times and it’s still leaking. In the process of degassing the action I bent the pellet probe. Tried to straighten it and almost got it back to normal except for the last 1/16” of being fully closed but it was sticking. So I tried to lap it in and SEIZED the internal probe and snapped the head off. To top it off this is the gun I had planned to shoot at PAC in a couple weeks. Arrrrgggghhhhh!

There is nothing for the reg O-ring in the plenum to seat against which I thought was odd. The O-ring bears against the threads in the plenum. I would have thought there should be a machined area for the O-ring to seat against? What am I missing?

That sucks, hope it gets resolved quickly in time for your meet
Yes it does. Hope I can get the parts in time. I have a couple of back ups but they don't shoot as good as this one. Its my bad for "futzing" with it at the last minute trying to eek out just a bit more accuracy. It also drives home the importance of having a back up for a shooting event.

Maybe I do not see what you did, but how did you bend the prope during degassing. I alwas remove bottle and during this I burb the bottle. Or is there a different way to degass it

Sorry about all the leaks..
If and when you get a replacement probe.. You may want to look up how to heat treat.
I've bend a fair number of probes years ago until I decided to do what I did to my tools and heat treat them.
It's a very simple and quick process.
I haven't had a bent pellet probe since.
If you have a propane torch and a glass of water or oil to quench, you can do it.
BTW . Stress relief isn't as important with such a short straight part.
I did this to my chisels and punches for years.

The action has air in it, even with bottle removed so you have to fire a single shot to get rid of the air after the regulator. If you don’t then the reg is very difficult to unscrew. I have an aluminum single shot tray in mine, that I did not remove and somehow the probe might have hit that when I fired off a shot???

Martin had the parts on the shelf and they are sending them out today and hopefully I will have them in hand on Monday.

Pyramid and yes, that is the one I ordered and received.
@igolfat8 I ask because I've received a poorly machined plenum for a different rifle from Huma air in the past. The threads between the reg an plenum wouldn't mate. They acknowledged the machining error and sent a functional replacement. Do you think the issue is a machining issue or something that you did while installing your plenum? Have you any experience installing RAW plenums or was this your first time?

@Ezana4CE, This is my fist RAW plenum that I’ve installed. I received a tip that if it’s leaking I should unscrew the reg, while it’s under pressure, no more than 1/2 turn and that will usually allow the O-ring to move and self align. I have not had the chance to try that yet but I will see if that seals it?

In my mind, an O-ring should mate up to two flat or beveled surfaces, but maybe I am wrong? In this case, the reg has a beveled surface for the O-ring to bear against but the surface of the plenum does not have any bearing surface other than the female threads.

The reg and plenum screws together easily so I didn’t have to force anything.

@igolfat8 I have no experience with RAW plenums, but I’m curious as to what would cause the plenum to leak upon installation. Maybe @Motorhead or @mubhaur may know and be able to assist you in figuring out that part. They’re two members who’ve done a significant amount of work on these rifles.

The reg threads into these female threads of the plenum pictured below. I don’t want to say that there is a problem with the machine work of the plenum until I have tried the tip mentioned above to see if that will allow it to seal properly?

I hope the slight unscrewing works! I was told when I remove my RAW's bottle to screw it back fully in then back it off a tad...sounds similar.....

Just follow which direction the pressure within in pushing on o-ring/s and just make sure the surfaces that have said o-ring pressing against to seal it are smooth and flat.
That’s what doesn’t make sense to me. The direction of pressure on the O-ring is pressing the o-ring into the threads of the plenum. Perhaps the pressure pushes outwards and presses the o-ring into the ID of the inlet mouth of the plenum?
