Backstop

Made a backstop in my backyard, 1/2 inch plywood, some pellets, especially from my 25 and 30 caliber PCP's would still penetrate easily. Ordered these Kevlar/ aramid fiber sheets off Ebay. I ordered two sheets, now they stop everything cold....no penetration, you can even inspect the pellets after shooting because they fall down between the plywood and fiber sheets. About $9.00 plus shipping

So did you just fold it all up and stick it in? How many layers did it make....looks like a great idea

Comes in like 6.5 foot by 3.5 foot sheets, folded both to make it 4 layers thick to make a 3.5 by 3.25 long curtain.

I like this. How far are you shooting and what caliber and how fast is it shooting.

I’m gonna try it...does it hang from the top, or is it fastened to the back board? Seems like it might do better hanging from the top, kinda like a curtain...any signs of penetration?

Everything from Marauder 22 cal (900fps) to Hatsan Carnivore Big Bore 30 cal (880 fps) at 20 yards with Neilsen SA and Rat Snipers slugs. Mix in a Maximus 22 at 950 fps with predator polymags. Oh, and a Hatsan QE Long 25 cal (900 fps) using H&N Feild Target Trophy 20 grains.

I hang them from the top using Binder Clips. There are signs of penetration rarely on the first layer, maybe 1 out of 10, no signs of penetration on second layer.

I bet it’s very quiet too...I’m ordering some right now...thanks for the tip...

mine doesn’t penetrate, I havecarpet covering 1/4” steel behind it, but soon the carpet disintegrates and it’s loud again

Me too. I was shooting my .25 Verminator MKII the other day and could hear some of the pellets ricocheting in the distance.

Quick ? for anyone above. Are you guys putting targets on the plywood, or shooting at a target and using the plywood backstop further back? If shooting at the plywood, how long does it last before needing replaced?

I'm using splatterblast targets on the plywood with the curtain of fabric draped over the rear of the plywood. Plywood is taking a beating, but nothing's getting through.

Do you have any friends that work for law enforcement ? when I worked for a local PD we would change out our Kevlar vest every few years and I saved some. I cut out the Kevlar inserts and used them as a back stop never had a pellet get thru or ricochet they just stop dead. Ask around a lot of PDs and Sheriff offices have old vests laying around and if you know someone that works there you might get lucky. Tell them you just want the insert only as you aren't going to wear them just use them as a pellet backstop. The reason you don't want the carrier is they have the serial number on them and could be traced to the dept.

Definitely an interesting idea. Seems to be out of stock. Another good item to consider is rubber truck mudflaps. Sometimes repair shops have old ones they will give away and a new 24" x 36" can be bought for around $30.
