Today I took a suggestion of one of the subscribers to my youtube channel Blackpaw Gunner and went to The Malby Cafe in Malby, Washington and some possible pesting opportunities. According to the subscriber the cafe has one of the best breakfast/brunches in the Seattle area, well I can agree it was excellent. I had chicken fried steak with hash browns and eggs, plus coffee of course.
So after getting some tips from a friendly waitress of where to possibly get some permissions, I headed off, with a very full stomach, and a plenty to have for a breakfast tomorrow. Oh and a cinnamon roll big enough for like 10 ppl.
I used google maps to locate some dairies. On the way I hit Safeway for donuts, well no donuts
, so I got some apple turnovers as a “thank you for your time,” offering to the dairymen if I can do some pesting. I bought three boxes, and ended up needing only one, I hit pay dirt the first attempt. It was a smaller dairy, size wise a 1/5 of the one in Idaho I would go to, but very friendly people. Apparently, there is another airgunner who comes here, but the dairy folks were cool with me once per month.
I adjust the hammer spring on the Katran so I was shooting the 25 cal JSB Hades at 23ish FPE at 645 FPS. Yes, a lot for a small dairy, thus I kept the shots limited. I sighted in the Katran and went to work. Right off I got a sparrow and starling, the starling stayed on the roof and well, the sparrow got a bit lighted headed.
One thing about dairies you need poop kickers (rubber boots) and very much needed, ick everywhere.
I did see the some collared doves, but it wasn’t safe or more I wasn’t comfortable taking the shot. However, I ended up getting two more sparrows and one was recoverable.
I ending up calling it quits around 4 pm after a couple of hours of enjoying finally getting out. I let the owner know I was leaving and left another package of apple turnovers with the dairy.
On the way back I stopped for a pint at Formula Brewery. I got Formula 2 IPA and went to find a place to sit outside. While I was looking for a spot to sit, 3 lovely 20 something ladies invited me over to chat and celebrate the birthday of one of their dogs. Great chat for about 45 minutes, ranging from mutual interests like mountaineering / climbing and yes, even hunting and afterwards, I gave my thanks and headed home.
