Awesome Hunt in CA with American Air Arms

Hello from CA.

Had a great time this past weekend with Tom from AAA and Dana from Mountain Sport Airguns / AirgunFlix. They are masters of long range, desert shooting and hunting! Got some exercise too.. walked 16 miles in 2 days in some pretty hilly terrain. Jackrabbit hunting is much harder than it looks on the internet, haha.

I used an EVOL .22 Hi-Power based on the .30 platform. It’s fitted with a dedicated slug barrel and puts out 60fpe. Tom told me that it’ll do 80fpe (in .22!) dialed up with heavier slugs. That thing was mind blowing (literally if your a ground squirrel) I watched Tom connect at 90 yards in a crosswind that blew the gun over while it was resting on it’s tripod.

We also hunted with another prototype rifle. A .357 Slayer that was regulated to shoot 81 grain JSB pellets! 150+ fpe. I watched Tom kill a ground squirrel from 227 yards with it!! After hunting / shooting with him, it’s no surprise he won EBR big-bore last year.

Here’s a video of the trip. I wanted to share a couple of the pics I took, but the WiFi is really weak here. Will try again when I get home.

"N89"That’s awesome! Do they do guided hunts? I’m in Northern California and was hoping there was something around here to do so
Not to my knowledge. You could try reaching out to Dana Webb / Mtn Sport Airgun and see what he says. He may be able to get you pointed in the right direction. Prob shouldn’t put his # here, but you can try him though instagram @mountainsportairguns or through AirgunFlix.com or YouTube. He’s a great guy and definitely knows what he’s doing. Hell of a shooter too! Hope this helps.

Took a lot of pictures of the hi-power .22 and am still daydreaming about it. Did a TON of shooting with it but it took a while to get used to the trajectory. Tom has the BC pegged somewhere north of .09. I’d pick out a tennis ball sized rock in the distance, we’d range it with LRF and he’d check the data in StrelokPro and tell me where to hold. At first, I was like “are you kidding me?” After several data-driven direct hits at 150-200 yards I was a believer.
