Average Joe -Target Accuracy - 2 New Rifles - My Back 5 Acres

Hi there L.Leon

My first single load for accuracy reply was merely a question based on AoA's own in house product reviews wondering why they single loaded for 50 yard groups when they are actually magazine fed guns.

Some info while researching.

The reason I had been researching Brocock brand specifically is because I have the opportunity to buy one off a friend for a very low price in as is condition how ever some thing is up with it. Similar to the OPs.

Had been doing research to see if it's a common issue and what the remedies are.

Had mentioned to try single load see if that helps but it appears as though he's over it.

He has also got a non regulated Compatto says that cheaper gun shoots alot better.

He mentioned thinking of trading it in for another gun.

Some people are just too impatient to not want to deal with trying to get repairs done under warranty.

Could it be a simple remedy that was over looked?

Didn't mean to ruffle any feathers.

AoA single loads expensive DayStates too.

It must be that something is wrong with the rifle, I’m remembering pictures of groups that L.Leon has posted and the groups show that they can be very accurate rifle’s. Impressive at 100 yards even. Last year I ordered two LW .20 barrels and had them sent to AZ because he was going to build two hot shooting .20 caliber guns, one for me and one for him. Both barrels were far less than perfect, the first one he tested could only get a 3/4 inch group at 60 yards, same with the other barrel. They would be ok for hunting but definitely worthless for target shooting. That’s two brand new LW barrels that preformed like that. The LW barrel on my Rapid .20 is incredibly accurate, but not those two. I’m not bashing LW barrels, just saying there are some mediocre ones, maybe you simply got a dud barrel. It almost seems like it could be clipping pellets too. Best of luck working it out.

I'd start with the basics,

Clean everything.
Ensure everything is Torqued to the correct specifications
Ensure Scope is mounted correctly
Clamp/secure gun in mount
Put 5 rounds with same aim point.
If the group is not acceptable, remove moderator, check for clipping
Put 5 rounds same aim point different than above without moderator
If group "magically" tightens up, the mod is suspect.

Continue to fire rounds as the barrel may need to be "leaded" before groups tighten up.

Try different pellets until a consistent group is established, then tune for pellet to tight up group further.

My Brocock Bantam MK1 .25 cal (unregulated) was pellet on pellet at 25 yards and 0.5" at 50 yards. That is until it took a header off the table. Then it went to 6" group. I checked the moderator and it had bent the inner steel disk. Tried a buddies Tonto, which is shorter, and we are back to close to what it was, but something is still "OFF". I've sent it back to AoA for checks and any repairs needed.

Jim,

keep at it. A long life of shooting all forms of rifles has shown me that ‘wobble’ of the projectile must be overcome. All rifles may do it, and when you are shooting pellets from a PCP rifle through a sunlit area with a powerful scope you can observe this. You are just looking for the sweetspot. Try some testing with slugs as they can be more stable.

Happy shooting,

Tom

OK on the barrell spotless. I'll give that a try after chrono. Some of my PCPs get hundreds of rounds through them before it affects accuracy. Perhaps this is a horse of a different color. Thanks.

Jim

Don’t have a Brocock but have had a couple of Daystates. The Brococks are very good rifles from all accounts here on AGN.

I would clean the barrel thoroughly with Patchworm and Guzilla or Ballistol “before” you go back out and shoot and chrono at 50 yards. If you purchased new and never cleaned the barrel, this could be causing your accuracy issues. Also, try and do this on a very light wind day. Post your results. We are all curious and want to help.

The good news here is that your gun is still under warranty and you can send it back and have the retailer fix it. I sent my Redwolf Safari HP .22 back a few times to AoA and was very pleased with their expertise and they did fix my warranty related issues.
