Tuning Avenger won’t take a charge.

Hello all, Dave here. I was hoping that someone might be able to give me guidance on fixing the problem. I was thinking of taking out of the stock and trying to charge it off my 12 v air compressor ( GX C S 2 ) while spraying the joints with soapy water. There is no pressure build indicated on the gauges. The pellet probe has had the “o” ring delete modification completed. Thanks to all those who will give me there thoughts. Dave

Is this the first time ever using the compressor? See previous poster's questions?

Is this the first time ever filling the gun?

Did you degas the gun and forget to tighten the bleed screw?

Are you able to hear air leaking somewhere when you try to fill off the compressor?

Have you tried filling off a tank? If so, do you hear air leaking somewhere?

Have you tried cocking the gun while filling (for the first 120 bar or so)? This is required for some rifles when filling from 0. Not sure if it applies to the Avenger though. Make sure it's not loaded, safety on, and pointed in a safe direction.

One common issue with Avenger leaks is the poppet material.( Got lucky with mine). As the other poster said you can try cocking the gun and filling...if it holds pressure do not fill over 3600 psi. I have not filled mine over 3600 psi to keep stress off the poppet. I have had my Avenger for 13 months.

You can contact Pyramid Air as they have replacement poppets and/or have them fix the leak.

I don't think this is your issue but it might be worth checking out. My Avenger had a leak where the bottom air tube screws into the block, it was a slow leak but a leak. I ended up taking off the top air tube to get enough grip to tighten the bottom tube.

The Foreend is a pain to get off, sounds and feels like it's going to break before it finally lets go. It does get easier after a few times on and off. I did the soapy water in a spray bottle test to find my leak.

I keep my Avenger topped right off at 4350 psi all the time and so far no issues, I do keep it cocked as I read somewhere cocked is supposed to be better then not?

I will ask the most obvious questions. Is the degassing valve closed on the rifle? Is the bleed screw closed on the compressor?

Go over it with soapy water if it's still got 1500 in it should be able to find something

Maybe but not necessarily, mine would leak down from 4350 to 2500 then hold for days.

Sounds like 2 issues, something affecting the fill process and a leak. If the leak is bad enough the rifle won't take air chances are it would bleed all pressure.

OP do you have a hand pump? If so try to pump it up and listen for the check valve to pop open, I'm wondering if the valve is stuck and not letting air in.

Mine didn't leak for a month or so. Then at some point it started leaking overnight, from 3600 down to 1500 (or maybe 1200).

I found that some crap (debris) had made its way in between the bleed screw and the delrin seal. This caused the bleed screw/seal to leak. I found the leak with soapy water. The bubbles were visible in one of the two holes in the bleed screw housing/cover (holes used for a pin wrench to remove the bleed screw housing/cover). There were no bubbles where the bleed screw's threads are.

The debris was inside the gun, from the factory. I was able to remove the crap after removing the screw. Fortunately, the screw/seal sealed again. I pulled the housing/cover too though, and there was more crap inside.

Does air come out of the compressor outlet if the outlet is open to atmosphere (not hooked up to anything)?

here what you need to do, "remove the Shroud to expose the barrel", put a balloon on the end of the barrel, wrap the end around the barrel with a rubber band to ensure a good seal, with the gun de-cocked and breech closed, try to pump up the gun as usual, if the balloon inflates your Poppet is leaking and needs repair, if not, the leak is elsewhere, you can use a plastic bag in place of a balloon, just make sure it has a good seal on the barrel end and no leaks, make sure the connection on the compressor hoses are not leaking, wiggle them to see if they leak and check to make sure the O-ring seal is good in the female adapter end.
