Tuning Avenger upgrade ?

How big is the barrel port and how big is the transfer port?

Just thinking logically, if the barrel port is smaller than the transfer port, then enlarging the barrel port to the same size as the transfer port will gain some power.

However, I guess it just depends on how much more power you are looking for?

I don't have an Avenger and have never modded my Freedoms, so take my words for what they are worth. (grin)

I have no idea but my guess would be that you wouldn't get much more power with just the barrel port. The reason I say that is that the avenger already has alot of power. I suspect that they have already bored that hole out pretty large. Maybe someone who has one and has tweeked it could tell you better. I could totally be wrong on this I'm as interested as you are as to the answer.

Will enlarging the barrel port on the avenger add a little more power or do you need to do the transfer port as well? Right now I'd prefer to do just the barrel if possible.

You would need to enlarge the transfer port and the valve port as well. Then you could possibly get a little more power out of it. But, you could possibly make the port too large and damage the pellets or slugs as they travel over the port when you are chambering a round and ruin your chance at having an accurate gun. PCPs for the most part do not need huge ports to get decent amounts of power out of them. Usually a little more regulator pressure and hammer spring tension will do that for you.

When doing mods to your gun just remember everything is plastic, and has some give to it, so it's easy to overdo it power wise and once you are there your gun is done.

I'm just curious because I read some where else that the barrel port was the restrictive part of the gun and enlarging the port would let the gun breathe easier and therefore up the power some what. I did mod the transfer port and exhaust valve on a different gun and it improved performance.

I'm not looking for a huge jump in power, just bring it to its full potential what ever that is.

Just last week i did mine, just the barrel port and polished the barrel. i followed this on YouTube,Air Venturi Avenger 25 - Review/Tear Down/ Mods/100 Yards with AVS .254 Slugs.

and this is what i ended up with:

this week i will be turning up the reg to 2700-2800 psi and play with the hammer and see the numbers, i will let you know the outcome. that was NSA slugs
