Air Venturi Avenge-X .22 Barrel Concerns

What is your pellet speeds? If you go from a 18gr pellet that’s at its happy speed and start shooting a 15gr pellet, it could be going at a speed that’s too fast. I don’t have an Avenger but I know they are capable of sending stuff very fast. Too fast. Don’t get too concerned with the effort it takes to seat a pellet into the rifling. A burr on the transfer port will tear off a piece of pellet. That’s something concerning and has to be addressed. I’ve seen ugly crown pellet guns shoot well. Slug guns not so much. The work you did sounds like it helped. I’m wondering if now some tuning will bring things home.

It wasn't bad at 25yds, but I was having issues trying to get a number of different pellets to pattern at 50yds. Also got dirty pretty quickly which really affected the consistency. The pellets were getting hung up pretty bad at the muzzle too - took quite a bit of force before the pellet would pop through.
This is called a choke. It fixes a lot of what happens at the beginning of the barrel. If they weren’t getting hung up at the muzzle, then that’s a problem. Pellet guns get dirty fast. And that’s not a problem.

I was shooting the 18gr JSBs right at 900. The 15gr was clocking in at around 930 or so I think. I didn't get a chance to do much tuning, but initial results were encouraging. Tried 14gr HN match too, which were obviously all over the place at 1030fps lol.
And this barrel isn't choked. I could push the pellet down the bore pretty easily and it would stop abruptly right at the muzzle.
And I do have another barrel on the way... mostly for my own entertainment to compare the two.

Everything sounds good. Hopefully the new barrel will be the difference. The pellet stopping at the crown is an angry crown. Not good. A 15gr can shoot great at 50 yards at 930fps with the right twist rate and a good choke. It’s interesting that you didn’t get any clipping with a grabby crown and your bore not being concentric.

The lighter pellets would sometimes tumble and keyhole the target if that's what you mean by clipping.
I'm hoping to get a few shots in at 50yds after work this evening if the rain holds off...
