With temperatures “only” in the low nineties, though our August match featured slight respite from brutal Texas heat, there was no respite from typically challenging Ranchito Robinson winds. Attempting to read the abundance of wind flags dancing in all directions at any given moment was enough to tax the temerity of even the most accomplished bench-rest shooters; which might largely explain why the most SIMPLE-minded shooter prevailed!
Quite interestingly, especially given the extremely challenging wind conditions, the two highest scores of the day were fired in the 35 Foot Pound (maximum) match, rather than the 80 Foot Pound class.
Match Winner and 35 Foot Pound Class winner was Ron Robinson with his 35 foot pound, vintage .22 Career II 707 unregulated Korean rifle. Ron’s 38/40 is a new club record, and he scored ten-in-a-row chickens, pigs and turkeys. Matter of fact, with his two misses occurring in his first three shots, Ron hit all 37 remaining targets (in-a-row).
Second highest score on the day and also in the 35 Foot Pound class was Chuck Misenheimer with an excellent 32/40, and ten-in-a-row chickens. Next highest score posted was John Tafoya’s 31/40 with his 80 Foot Pound Class rifle. Bill Miller posted a 30/40 in the 35 Foot Pound class, with ten-in-a-row pigs.
Also interestingly, perhaps to the point of inexplicability, in the 80 Foot Pound match Ron Robiinson posted the LOWEST score of the day with an unimpressive 24/40. Go figure!
