So SWMBO is at work and my lill monster is at her grandmas. While vacuuming the carpet after reading about how some guys have a indoor range in their basements. I got a little jealous of that. As I was looking from the front of the apartment I realized I have a bout 30 usable yards from one end to the other but a narrow opening in the hallway. After I finished vacuuming I decided to calibrate my 3d printer and needed a longer USB cable as I relocated it. No my attic run the length of the appt so there I also have about 20 usable yards because its cramped on the ends and edges. I know it's cluttered but this might motivate me to clean it up and I am aware I would need to get some wood up there as some containment and better lights.

Kinda what I started out with after buying my Rougemont property 12 years ago. I first lined the ceiling and walls with 1/2" thick foil covered foam boards to help reflect the summer heat and then covered the foam insulation with 1/2" thick drywall. I did apply the first coat of "joint mud" but never completely finished the project............

Still....I have 18 yards upstairs from gable to gable and it's just fine as my "man attic" with a shooting lane through my upstairs junk..........

LOL......my wife noticed this when she was upostairs lookin' for "lost stuff"................

Sell I dont know if I would use it in the summer much but it does get very hot in there. Right now it being in the 20° range I could wear a light jacket and heavy pants and probably stay in there about an hour. I could also open the door before I go in there to let some warm air in to make it more comfortable. A small space heater did cross my mind where I plan to have my bench at.

Sit on a heating pad. I do that, along with a dish space heater facing me, when to gets really cold and I’m shooting from under my carport into the shop.

I never thought of using an attic. My attic is long enough but I wouldn't use it because most of the time it is too hot or too cold and the air is full of fiberglass dust! If your attic doesn't have these issue all you need to do is put up backstop and clothes line to change targets. I betcha the attic keeps the noise pretty muffled outside the house too. :)

Green that breaker box is right there I can add in a plug for a heater right quick, and a heating pad would keep the 4th point nice and warm.

Black the FG dust should be nice and settled by now i could vacuum the floor to keep whats on the floor from kicking up. As you see there is a lot of insulation so that will muffle most noise in my AO. The target change idea is a good one just dunno if I would do that at the start. Mostly because I just wont be happy with a couple pulleys and a clip to hold the target, I would want it powered too.

My attic in some places isn't high enough to stand up and walk, also I don't have boards on the ground anywhere near the full length. PITA to walk on top of ceiling joists too avoid putting your foot through the ceiling below. A motorized pulley system should be too much cost and will save a lot of walking. I have loose fiberglass all over the "floor" walking over the stuff just kicks up a lot of fibers. Just a DC motorized gearbox or reduction pulleys power supply and a DPDT switch.
