Atomic XR Back to back cans @ 102 yards…

After work today I was plinking black walnut husks at 50 yards, wind at 4 mph from behind, and from the right. I was making consistent hits holding over and holding off. I was feeling good. After connecting at 64 yards, I said to myself give it a try at 102 yards, the cans were already set. Anyway sent the first pellet, can down! Sent the second, back to back hits!🙀 Walked down, set them up again, and knocked them down with two more shots. 10 MILs of holdover and 1.5 MILs of hold off. Atomic XR, bipod front, fist rear, sending CPHPs at 725 fps. I know it’s not a long range rig. I’m just a fool for plinking.

That's great Luis! What you are doing is exactly what I do in my backyard. I even use old 4x4s and cinder blocks/bricks for the foundations. 102 yards at cans is good shooting. 👌🏼🎯 I just goes to show what a good shooter/rifle combo can do together.

I was just outside shooting cans in my yard. At 75 yards there was a piece of an orange clay that got left behind on a pile of wood chips. I guesstimated the holdover and let one fly. It was 1 mil low so I raised the POA one mil and last #2 fly. Direct hit 💥🎯 The little piece broke up and the victory was won 🦾🏆😎😄

You continue to amaze me with that little Atomic. Nice work!
Thanks. I laid the bigger can on its end, but ran out of daylight. I feel like an artillery man lobbing pellets out there.
@Greenarrow, I really love to plink at various distances because it’s fun and translates directly to pesting for me. The darn Atomic continues to impress me. I often run inside to tell my wife about my “backyard feats of plinkmanship” with it and she humors me. My Compatto and Bantam Sniper HR have been crying in the safe. The Atomic is currently lording over them. It’s no powerhouse, sub 18 FPE, but it’s proven to be, for me, more than able in terminal performance on small critters up to woodchuck size. Sub 40 yards for me on shots on woodchucks, but birds? Pigeons, sparrows and starlings… 50+ if the opportunity presents itself.

That is remarkable. I understand your plinking. But in your estimation, what kind of energy is that pellet hitting the can with? I have a ranger xr which is real close to the atomic, mine is 25 cal with a max of 22 FPE. I would not feel comfortable shooting a squirrel head shot farther than 20-25 yards. Birds further, maybe 40yds.

@rangur1, mine is a .22 and according to StrelokPro, 4 FPE at 102 yards, as you can see the CPHPs went through both sides of the can. I’ve taken chippers out to 50 yards and two large woodchucks at 25-30 yards. We see what some sharp shooting Brits do with their sub 12 FPE PCPs. @Crosman999, in his “in the field” review of the Atomic XR took ground squirrels out to 68 yards. At 50 yards? 8.5 FPE, plenty for typical small game species, with proper shot placement. This coming Spring I intend to unleash my Atomic on small pest birds and rodents out to 60 yards. The gun is definitely capable if I do my part.
