ATN X-Sight II --- Customer Review

"jmdesignz2"oldspook - the more of your posts I read, the more respect I have for you!

BTW - what night sight do you suggest for hunting?
I'd suggest ATN after they get the firmware issues sorted out. If you got an ATN to hunt at night, and you set it up and left it alone, didn't fiddle with it and used it for just that purpose on one rifle at one magnification all the time. I'd say yeah... BUT right now today, I can't in good conscience say it is better than some other device. Just don't trust the reviews on Amazon. You might contact one of the Brits that does night hunting youtube videos and see what he/she recommends, they have a lot of experience. Si Pittaway comes immediately to mind. https://www.google.com/search?q=Si+Pittaway&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

Welp, I've talked to a couple of people at ATN. There is good news. They do care. I think they may be a bit overwhelmed with the volume of business this product has generated and maybe that is a source of some of the help desk issues people have seen.

Basically what I've been told by ATN makes me confident that they will not orphan this product, that they will eventually get all the firmware issues sorted, and that they know there are issues, expected that, and are addressing those in as timely and professional a manner as they are able. In other words, I've talked with them and they are engaged and committed.

It is going to be all right, I am going to keep my X-Sight and I bet by the next firmware revision after this up coming one people will be freaking out at the value per dollar ratio. It is after all a uniquely capable hardware platform.

I cannot speak for anyone else. I have well over 100 hours of use on my X-Sight II. I haven't experienced most of the issues one reads about on line. One reason is I always use the external battery. All this said, I still have a few "issues" which ATN needs to adjust.

Although I have never had the IR filter stick, too many have. Whatever the issue, it needs to be addressed.

The firmware has a lot of problems, not the least of which is button timing. By now, most all controls for cameras, TV remotes, and a host of others, have dual function buttons. That's all and good, but extended lengths of hold shouldn't cause problems—ATN's X-Sight is an exception!

ATN openly advertises downloadable photos and videos. You can't without jumping through too many hoops. Part of the issue is the Bluetooth function has never been implemented, contrary to their advertisements.

And they need to completely rewrite the app for the iPad and Android. It doesn't work correctly, and the GUI is second grade at best.

There is more to be sure, making it difficult to be in love with the X-Sight. I persevere in hopes ATN will eventually wake up.
