Athlon question

Does anyone here have a Ares ETR 3-18x50 APLR6 and a Midas Tac 4-16 that could tell me if they can see the reticle in the Midas tac as well? I know they are a different reticle.

I have a Midas HMR 2.5-15 AHMR on my Taipan Standard 22 that I have really liked. Here while back I bought a Ares ETR 3-18, I put it on my Wolverine set up for FT for the last couple three months I have only shot the Wolverine With the ETR on it. Today I went out and shot some FT targets for several hours and since they were my targets I started shooting them with the Taipan. The first few shots with the Taipan / Midas HMR I was surprised my reticle was harder to see. After shooting awhile the reticle didn't bother me but made me wonder if the Midas Tac FFP reticle may be easier to see? I thought someone may have both or all three and give me their thought.

thanks, Sparky

The Midas TAC 4-16 has very fine reticle thickness and a tiny dot. People with young eyes don't seem to mind it on lower magnification but older shooters with eyes that aren't so good usually don't like how fine the reticle is, I'm one of them. Even on 16x it seemed thin to me so I sold it.

A friend recently got an Argos G2 6-24 in MOA. For some reason Athlon put a thicker reticle in it. If I wanted to see the reticle easier on 16x I'd try that one.

I have never had a reticle that I could use as well as the APLR6. I emailed Athlon before I bought my Ares ETR 3-18x50 APLR6 asking what reticle is easiest to see they told me the Argos BTR G2 APMR so I think you are right on. I had already ordered my Ares. What do you think of the glass quality of the Argos. I see it is less money. I would love to spend less if I like it

It's good glass but not as nice as the ETR. In other words I don't mind it in its price range. I used a G1 Argos for the last 5 years in FT freestyle class and rarely felt I needed better glass. Though need and want are two different things. It's going to be slightly annoying going down from the ETR to the Argos but that's the money trade off so what do you do - live with it, right?!
