Athlon Midas TAC gen 2 - Wow!

Just got the newly released Athlon Midas TAC gen2 5-30x56 FFP scope. Everything the gen 1 is known for plus better glass and higher mag. Only focus down to 20 yards at full mag, but that wasn’t a concern for me.

I think this scope is every bit as good as the Ares ETR 4.5-30x or Cronus 4.5-29x (I have both) for significantly less $$$. Turrets function perfectly with good clicks and lots of elevation adjustment (30 Mil).

I will be using it on the new .30 Daystate Black Wolf Chassis with Tube and 23 inch pellet barrel that I am getting next week. Looking forward to a great EFT GP combo!

Congrats on your new scope Mike.

It's crazy how nice these new Generation 2025 Athlon scopes are!

Man my Ares BTR G3 2.5-15x50 is awesome. I mean my gosh why spend more money on a scope when this thing is 97% of one many times the cost and I betcha the turrets won't be any better. I was just using my March Genesis yesterday and the turrets are close enough in distinctness and feel between the two that there's hardly any difference, and that's a $5700 retail scope! Glass is nicer in the March by a fair margin, and superior in specific ways, but the gap is not that big.

Thanks for confirming this. Having liked the Midas Tac very much and being a fan of most Athlon options, I have been eager to see how this performs. I was shocked they created this in this mag ratio as it really muddies the water even more, but I’ll take it!

Do you have an idea what it will focus down to at 16x?

I really think the BTR Gen II 2.5-15-50 scopes are excellent quality, especially for the price. I bought ETR 3-18-50 scopes to replace my 2 BTR's because they went on a good sale. When comparing the 2 series, the build quality was about the same (excellent!). However, there was a noticeable upgrade in optical quality when comparing the 2 scopes side by side. I set up each scope in a separate rest so that I could quickly compare the same field of view. I was mostly looking at tree trunks and leaves (things with very fine details) between 10 - 60 yards. I found the clarity of the ETR scope to be a full notch better than that of the BTR scope. It was clearly noticeable. I'm curious how much the BTR Gen III scopes bridge this gap, as I would really prefer the lighter weight of the BTR series. I'm also curious how much better the BTR 4.5-27x50 Gen III is compared to the Gen II. I found the clarity of the Gen II to be lacking between 20x - 27x.

I don't know if the IQ is any better than before on the G3 BTR 4.5-27 but the turrets are and the scope caps screw into the scope which is neat feature.
