Athlon Argos BTR Gen2 or Optisan Scope?!

Shouldn't be SFP. I don't believe the Midas Tac come in SFP only FFP. Also if interested in the Arken Venture firearms have the 4-14ffp in stock. It's where I bought mine at.

  • Midas BTR Gen II Rifle Scopes feature a 24mm or 50mm lens diameter, depending on magnification selection (listed above)
  • Single Focal Point Reticle (SFP) reticle stops the reticle from overy obstructing the target.

What the heck is single focal point?

The 1st Gen Midas' are FFP...

Yeah, I'd step up to the Midas TAC line personally because it's truly a great scope! It's 3 times what the Argos is.

Since I won my division in AZ state FT the last 4 years in a row with a G1 Argos BTR 6-24x50, that should give confidence in a Chinese scope of this price as far as it's durability and tracking. Though the turret alignment is slightly off.

Not all, but most scopes from other Co's in this price range have turrets that don't line up perfectly. I decided years ago to pick the features I wanted as a priority instead, why???, because there's always something that falls short of my expectations. Pick a manufacturer, I've owned most of them before, except Arken.

I had a $1500 Bushnell LRHS that had turret alignment that was slightly off, and the splines were funky, instead of 100/100 they were half assed at 50/100, the sight in zero was off .1 mil, so I sold it.

Had a Bushnell 3-12x44. Eyebox was screwy, the worst I've had the displeasure to come across, and turret alignment off, so I sold it.

Sent two Bushnell's back for repair, a 6-18 and a 6-24.

I had a Sightron 10-50, a decent target scope, glass not great and getting dark by 45x, 2.5 mils per rev was stupid, turrets mushy, and not a versatile scope, so I sold it. I paid $1100-ish for it back then.

Had three SWFA 3-15's, both my friends and my Athlon's have better glass. Also the side focus fell off one of those SWFA's. I kept one SWFA because it focuses down to 6M so I can shoot indoors occasionally. Oh and when I shot long range with a centerfire the scope would not focus well past 700Y, so it was blurry and unfocused.

That's just my experience. I've read literally hundreds of posts from others in the various optics forums for the past 13 years regarding all scopes in all price ranges having problems of some kind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Athlon Ares BTR G2 isn't perfect but very nice in most ways, the turrets have a nice feel and all 3 of them have perfect turret alignment, it has a superb .2 mil reticle which is why I made this scope my go-to. Would I like a better scope, sure, but for the money it's great, keeping in mind that the next step up for me would cost 3 times the amount.

Heck I just sold a S&B 3-20x50 that was a brilliant scope. I sold it because the H59 reticle at 3-4x magnification wasn't what I wanted after owning the scope for a while. Basically I should have picked the H2CMR reticle instead. BTW I sent that scope back to S&B twice for repair, the 2nd time they fixed it right and the repair man that I talked to personally admitted to his mistake. No problems after that.

The lesson here is don't let people ""fool you"" into thinking scopes made in Japan, Philippines, etc, are """"ALL THAT""" because they are man made and have faults too.

The confusion comes from the Midas line being SFP, there was the G1 and now there is a G2.

It's the Midas """TAC""" line that's FFP.

Those are two separate scope lines.

id get a Arken

Why? Elaborate a little. Is Arken better? Been around as long? Has a proven track record? Some like to jump on the new scope bandwagon. Black Hound, Arkens, Elements, etc. Don’t overlook established brands with a deep lineup. Athlons are proven and they’ve been around a while can the same be said for the others?

steve123, 😊

I appreciate you expressing a carefully differentiated viewpoint — instead of a simplistic black—or—white.... good—or—bad. 👍🏼

I guess quite a few of us on the forums don't have the shooting skills nor the scope experience that you have.

We depend on those kind of comments...! 😄

Because we are prone — due to our lack of experience — to easily buy comments like "Brand X is all trash" and the like (because those type of comments seem to make life easier — at the expense of believing half-truths).

Thanks!

Keep the good comments coming! 😊

Matthias

I picked up an Optisan EVX 6-25X50 FFP from a forum member last month. It was new in the box... I was pleasantly surprised with the clarity & contrast at 24x. The build quality, turrets, sunshade, and aluminium lens covers are awesome! It's a very nice scope and underrated for that price range.

When viewing a busy background, is the Reticle visible at higher magnifications?

How is the parallax adjustment and accuracy?

Anything else worth noting from parctical use?

Thanks,
Bo3b

Sorry Matthias, I forgot to say thanks for those kind words!

Hey Bo3b - Although I'm primarily shooting from a bench at 100 yds, I find the visibility a bit better than my Ares BTR (which cost more). The parallax is spot on and smooth to adjust. I really like the layout of the reticle. Tree style that's not cluttered. Best scope in that price range (IMO)
