Athlon Argos BTR Gen2 or Optisan Scope?!

I would recommend a Japan made scope if you plan on clicking. I believe both of your scopes mentioned are Chinese made and tho they may track fine at first there will be a time neither won't. Recommend for clicking with good glass worth their price SWFA SS any of them. Bushnell TAC 4.5-30x50 SFP Mildots 25 yard minimum focus $599 clearance for a $1000 scope if you shop around. Sightron SIII 10-50x60 SFP Mildots 13 yard min focus $599 unheard of price normally $1100-$1200. Probably best scope for the money in the last 20+ years you couldn't find a used one for under $700. YO!

The Sightron SIII is similar to this one but without the illumination next to the Bushnell TAC. Fantastic scopes on sale too. YO!

My Argos BTR Gen2 came with a misaligned elevation turret so the hash marks didn’t line up cleanly. I expected better out of that price range scope. Vendor customer support could use a few training classes on communication and empathy. They want me to drip acetone down into it and apply a heat gun to it to undo the glue it is assembled with, then reassemble/align/glue it back in place. They were very matter of fact about how I could fix it myself if I found that to be a problem and never once said they were sorry my new product came that way.

All that said I believe I will get the Vortex Diamondback Tactical which was also under consideration when shopping for my last scope. It has target turrets and their customer support is awesome.

Yikes! Don’t know if I want to chance the Athlon anymore.

I currently have a vortex diamond back tactical FFP on my raptor. Turrets are slightly off also. Like 1/3 of a hash. However they are very accurate when I dial to my target.

The Element Optics Helix looks appealing but don’t know if I want to go back to SFP scopes. I got use to FFP and liking being able to use any magnification without changing aim point.

Just be sure whatever you buy is made in JAPAN then you're all set good to go no worries. BTW the Athlons markup is ridiculous. Check Amazon $269 6-24X50. Don't be disappointed you were warned about buying overpriced Chinese made scopes. I would be content with either a $189 Aim Sports Alpha6 4.5-27x50 from DVOR when on sale if I wanted more Chinese made scopes or the $200 version from JSAR and just don't click them. That's what Chinese scopes are really worth IMHO... YO!

@wahoowad, why not send it back under warranty? Do you like the glass, reticle, anything about it? @jmmartinez573, my Athlon Helos BTR with the APLR2 MOA reticle is solid, the settings are repeatable and accurate. I find myself dialing for elevation every time I shoot. I have targets in my yard from 40 to 104 yards. I dial between all those ranges and the scope is dead on. This image shows the small targets I shoot at, the reticle allows a great view of POI. I plink those same black walnut husk at 104 yards. I love this scope it replaced an Aztec Emerald FFP as my primary.

I may, although after the effort to mount and sight it in I don't want to sideline the Uragan while I wait for both way shipping and for however long it takes them to repair it. I bought both the new gun and new scope and of course was filled with joyful anticipation of getting and using them. So it is a pain in the butt to turn around and send the scope in to be repaired. Very much like your thread about PCPs arriving and not working 100% - just frustrated at their lack of quality control.

@YO, I am trying to understand you’re saying Athlon Scopes, the Argos, Helos, Midas TAC, Ares, are all crappy overpriced scopes? That won’t stand up to repeated dialing? That you can dial at first but then over time they will crap out? There is a large base of Athlon users out there, and if this was the case we would definitely hear about it. They are top rated scopes with lifetime warranties. I would love to know where you are getting your information. You seem to have “vast” knowledge on lots of PCPs and scopes... Care to elaborate in detail, you post lots of anecdotes but little empirical data. Both my Aztec Emerald FFP and Athlon Helos BTR FFP, have been solid on the bench and in the field. I’m no glass “expert” both are comparable to each other. With the nod going to the Helos for robustness and better turrets for dialing. I’ve made kills with both scope out to 100 yards. Both scope are capable of acquiring and hitting very small targets out to 100 yards away. I shoot everyday and intimately know my scopes. So when I read what you’re writing you need to back it up. There is a poster here, I forget his name who has been using a Gen. 1 Argos in field target for a few years. He’s won many tournaments with his over the years. There are lots, lots of satisfied Athlon owners or you would hear about it. To the OP check out the reviews on bluelineoptics. The guy uses something more empirical than “bad ass” for scope reviews and ratings.

They would probably outright replace it. It’s a lifetime warranty so you could wait until your awesome chucking season is over then get it replaced. Other than the turret issue your impressions on the glass/turrets/reticle would be appreciated. Post up if you can an image of the mis-aligned turret, would like to see that. As I’m picturing misaligned reference markings, as opposed to it being the turret. Are you able to dial consistently and get back to zero?
