Athlon Ares BTR G3 2.5-15x50

One challenge this scope presents is limited geography on the parallax knob. Thus it will be a true challenge to make a HFT wheel for it that allows access to the illumination feature
I'll have to go look at that today. I'm going to mount it on a PB today to shoot some long range if it isn't too windy.

I hadn't looked at the sunshade and scope caps yet but it turns out the scope caps are threaded so they both screw right onto the scope!!!
The objective end of the sunshade is also threaded so that the cap screws onto it as well.
These caps feel like they are high quality and a magnet system holds them closed.
A very nice bonus and all of which is pretty cool!

Mine is due to arrive today
hopefully I like what I’m looking at when I plant my eye behind the scope

I shot some long range today with it on my AR in 6mmFatRat/95grSMK/.5 G1 BC/2924 fps. 3 shots at 230Y. Windy and lots of mirage. Went out to 787Y. I like the scope.

Mine arrived last night. I mounted on my TM 1000 with Vortex 30 mm low picatinny rings. For grins I temporarily added a scopewerks 6” eccentric mag wheel that used a similar parallax profile.
Im really liking the reticle and the build quality. Those threaded lens caps are da bomb.
I’m going to have a proper 6” round mag wheel made for it wikiwiki, but for now I can do a quick test on how well it ranges and spreads out the numbers; like all of my other scopes they do not range well from a warm room looking out into a cold environment.
Even if it doesn’t spread out the numbers on the wheel for HFT, this scope is a keeper; and may end up on my Steyr ProX 10.
the turrets are amazing!
I zeroed in 4 shots at 25 yards.

Congrats Cavedweller.

Just a heads up.
When I got back from shooting yesterday I was setting my elevation turret back to zero and noticed it had some wiggle and lash which concerned me. What had happened is I had snugged it down after sighting in but it needed to be tighter so once I took care of that it was back to the awesome feel these have.

Yeah it's funny, those scope caps are so nice it makes this G3 scope seem all that much better. I bought some expensive after market scope caps for my S&B, which I think I paid $125 for years ago, and I prefer these Athlon caps to them.

Tempted to get one in mil because it has a little more reticle thickness at .06 mil so it'd make a decent MPVO compared to some others on the market using thinner reticles, plus the G3 probably incorporates some internal and external upgrades. I prefer the look of those lower profile turrets for sure!

There's a G3 4.5-27x50 version as well.

The G3 Midas TAC 4-16 also has .06 mil reticle thickness so nearly a third as thick as before, and this could be a popular Hunter FT scope for 2025!

Visit Athlon's website because they have lot's of newer scopes coming out in 2025.

I ended up mounting this Gen3 2.5-15x50 on my EFT pistol as 16x is allowed and adjusting the turrets is allowed also. Good choice for my EFT pistol but not for an HFT pistol because it is difficult to range well/easily with this scope.
I really enjoy the reticle so it will be interesting on 6 June to see How I do with it on an actual EFT pistol course.

I wonder why I can range so well with my Helos G2 2-12 on 12x in HFTP with winning state twice and at Temecula a few months ago, especially having such funky eyes??

Now you have me curious what in particular is the reason why this G3 isn't working for you in HFTP since it only goes to 35Y? Are you meaning it doesn't snap in and out of focus at 12x as far as having too generous in DOF?

The old saying - If it ain't broke then don't try to fix it, so I'm staying with my HG2 2-12 for HFTP. If I remember next time I'm ranging targets I'll try the two scopes side by side to see how each affects me.

It could be because it's on my pistol and up until now, i have been working from inside A/C to out a window from a bench?
I also have the Helos G2 2-12 and it ranges nicely... dunno... but i most certainly intend to do more ranging with it this weekend but OUTSIDE. Pistolis can be a pain to range well from the sticks which is why i normally begin by having them fixed at my bench so my eyebox doesn't crick my neck.
in EFT pistol we shoot from 15-55 yards rather than 10 to 35 yards in regular hft.

I certainly don't want it to be cataract related.

@Steve 123 - I spent a couple hours working on setting up a 6” parallax ranging wheel. My opinion remains the same, great scope but even maxed out at 15x it doesn’t spread the numbers out much and differentiation of 1/2 yards between 10 yards and 20 yards is extremely difficult… Since my intended use for this scope is EFT pistol, it’s still a perfect scope choice for what I need, because in EFT distances are given so ranging is not important. We can also use range finders if desired.
I really like the turrets and reticle on this scope.
update =
I sent the scop back to Athlon for inspection and they found no issues
but when I was taking the scope off I noticed that I had inadvertently used the incorrect ring inserts and this may have caused the parallax issue. Waiting on my eft pistol to return so I can remount it and test it
