Asking for feedback on my first and new PCP setup.

I just ordered my first air rifle and accessories (Airguns of Arizona). Looking for some feedback on the set up. I'll be bench shooting targets at 25 yards in the backyard 95% of the time.

-Benjamin Cayden .22 (I first looked at the Akela, but liked the traditional look of the Cayden, and thought it would better fit my long 6'3" frame).

-Hawke Vantage 3-9x40 AO Mil-Dot Scope

-Sportsmatch HT076 2-Pc High Weaver/Picatinny 1 Inch Scope Mounts

-Donny FL KOI Suppressor .17-.22 with cone attachment (would you recommend removing the suppressor when traveling in a gun case?)

-JSB Exact Heavy 18.13g pellets (I've read these shoot well with this gun)

Still looking into a bipod, or front/rear shooting bags, and a hard case. I will start this venture with a hand pump. I'm an athletic 6'3" 225lbs, lift heavy every other day, so a couple minutes of hard pumping doesn't scare me. If I shoot more often, and longer than I anticipate, I will look into a tank at some point.

Thanks, AG NATION folk.

Nice set up ! Unless your gun is well protected from any impact in a long enough (unwieldy) hard case, I would suggest a shorter case and removing the suppressor when travelling. I once dropped a gun and the suppressor was out of alignment 😨

For bipods, take a look at Aliexpress. I got an Atlas type for 18 bucks shipped (shopping bonanza today and tomorrow). Nothing to say about the quality, excellent. Just make sure the description clearly states aluminum -- a couple vendors are flogging polymer versions at an even lower price!

Happy shootin'!

Maybe get the KOI in .25 rather than the .22?

I originally ordered the .25, a size up from the .22, and AofAZ agreed. However, I talked to DonnyFL, and DonnyFL said because the Cayden has no shroud, and the suppressor attaches directly to the threaded barrel, to go with the .22. If there is any clipping I have the email correspondence with DonnyFL recommending I go with the .17-.22 KOI for this gun. Also, AofAZ will be test firing and zeroing the scope in before shipping.

If you plan to shoot from the bench 95% of the time, the good 'ol Harris Bipod would suit you well. There are plenty knockoffs for different brands and don't know how you feel about it. It's your money. I personally don't care to support them but that's just me.

It looks like the Cayden comes with sling studs already so the Harris would mount right to it without any other modifications. Down the line, you could remove the front sling stud and attach a picatinny rail but you're going to have to drill into the stock and I'm not sure how feel about that but it's pretty simple. A minimum of 3 slot or 5 slot picatinny rail should work fine. Look at Magpul's polymer picatinny rails.

You'll then need to get a " Picatinny to Sling Stud Adapter" to fit the Harris Bipod. If you get other airguns or firearms with picatinny rails, you could also use it down the line. You can get one like similar to this. There are so many in different price ranges but I prefer a Quick Detachable/Release adapter.

You could also up your game and get an Accu-Tac or Atlas bipod if you could afford it. That's the route I would go because you can always use them for other guns but that's just me. The Harris bipod is still a good all around bipod to mount to a sling stud or picatinny rail if you get the adapter.

A good set of bags is always a good idea. Some say they shoot better with a front bag than a bipod. I like shooting off a bipod and a rear bag. If you're shooting off a bipod, I recommend a good rear bag like this..

In regards to pellets, try a variety. Sure, JSB 18.13gr might be a safe bet but don't forget to try the JSB 15.89gr and also in the different rebranded JSBs' like Air Arms 16 and 18 grain pellets. Also try out some H&N pellets. You never know. Hope this helps.

Wow, Thanks for all the info. There is a screw on the bottom behind the sling mount for a small Picatinny rail. It may even come with the Picatinny, I'm not certain.

...methinks you should get a more powerful Alpha 6 scope instead of the Hawke...I believe you will appreciate more magnification...

...I liked my Hawke Vantage 4x12 scope until I bumped it slightly...it took only a light bump to change the POI...

...I just gave it away to with a warning...I tend to bump things and would bump it off point w/o noticing until I took a shot...(D'OH !)....

...I like the Alpha 6 a whole lot more anyway...it "looks" like a really high end scope, as bright and clear as my $500 Bushnell Elite 4x16...and I did not hurt mine when I attacked it with vise grips that one tyme...

...I have the lower powered 2.5x15 version...Odoyle prefers the 4.5x27...

...it is mounted on a Cayden rifle like yours...it makes for a heavy package...but you sound like a big fella...

...I am 66 years old, 145 lbs, and fill mine with a Hill MKIII pump...mine shoots the JBS 18.13 grn pellets into 1/4" @ 20 yards...

...they whack the squirrels soundly...at 20-25 yards I am getting full penetration...the power is just backed off maximum @ 90%...

...I am using a DonnyFL Shogun LDC on mine...IMHO it is perfect for this gun...not too small, not too big, just right, just like

Goldie's porridge...

...I tried a Tanto and an Emperor on it too...

...I only thing I do not like aboot the action is the floppy nature of it but I very much like how smooth and solid it is...

...it is very quiet compared to some popular guns too, which you really notice when you put an LDC on it...

...I really wanted an Air Arms 510 carbine but I messed that deal up...Odoyle said I would just get buyer's remorse from it anyway...

...I have to admit that don't feel any from the Cayden even though my rifle weights 11 lbs set up and my stock is a dog...

...I will just be sure not to look down the barrel with a bore scope... (grin)
