Arrrgggg! Fliers!

Today was windless and I was anxious to see the new .25 X barrel upgrade in my Impact and a tune I was working on. I was well on my way to a personal record when....out of nowhere....two fliers. I know it wasn't me. When I mess up they are off the mark but not that far off the mark. The two fliers were shots 6 and 8 out of 8. My smile became a frown real fast. In any case 6 shots into just over half an inch. But the new barrel is shooting the pants off the original ST barrel with MKII's.

I guess I'll try cleaning the barrel and see if that helps. Just need another day like today....not been many of them this summer.

25g or 34g. I have found 25g have6.38 head while 34 have 6.36 & 6.37. (As a rule?). 865-880 is generally the sweet spot.

I have found that if you shoot 25g. Frequent cleaning is required! That is with prewash included. 34g don't foul anywhere close as bad. AND, I have started "pledging" my pellers. I have found a approx. 20fps increase and a noticeable less fouling w/ accuracy improvement. I may be a little off on my #`s but it definitely noticeable.

Keyman,

Thanks for the reply. I'm shooting Heavy MKII's at 875 fps. I have experimented and found that a reg setting of 145 Bar gives best groups...."for my gun." I also wash pellets with Acetone and lube with Krytech (to keep the barrel cleaner). Perhaps, because it's a brand new barrel, I should clean more often until broken in more. Can't hurt, I might try your pledge technique. Do you spray em and put them in the tin or do you wipe off?

Who knows but I just felt that the cross hairs didn't move when I got those two fliers....odd they both went in the same vicinity. I also did feel myself quiver slightly on a shot or two and was surprised that they went right into the group. Stranger things have happened and I know it all too well when shooting.

I had to return my first X barrel because it was throwing fliers and upon inspection there was a "bump" on the rifling near the muzzle. FX replaced it and the new barrel looks flawless.

I am very very happy overall with the way this barrel is shooting....just would have loved to have put 8 into half an inch at 100!
