Are these portable tanks any good?

I'm looking for a medium to small sized portable fill station probably in carbon fiber, something I can bring in a backpack. 

I see offerings like these and they seem appealing is there any reason not to buy one from these eBay sellers?

Couple things I did not see in that advert was DOT certification nor any statement what the hydro date is.

If your filling them yourself then your good to go...but the scuba shop won't touch them!!! 

No D.O.T certificate on those Chinese tanks!

The best size-to-weight-to-length-to-capacity, for putting in a backpack is the 2.17L size. I fill mine myself so dot is a non-issue. The price you are looking at looks a little high but all prices are going up. For my Acecare 2.17L with a Jubilee valve, I paid $207 delivered, over a year ago.

If your scuba shop fills them they are looking the other way and being cool. I went to like 15 shops around the bay area and nobody would fill the Chinese tanks. You better have a fill source planned out b4 you buy. Maybe your local shop is run by somebody who doesn't care. I'd ask them first.

I'm curious did you go to any Paintball shops as well or just Dive Shops?

For less than a $100 more than the tank you can get a compressor similar to this that you can run off your car battery. Yes you can't walk around with it of course but you can still fill your gun in the field and never worry about running out of air or where you need to get your tank filled.

I purchased a similar tank. Never filled it to over 3,000 psi. A couple of weeks ago, the o-ring where the valve screws into the tank failed with a loud bang and all the air escaped. Use at your own risk. 
At the time of the failure, it had been filled for about a month and was just sitting in my gun room when the shtf.

Hello for just 50 dollars more Pyramid Air has recertified 45 and 65 cu ft tanks with 9 and 10 years life left. So for $359 you get a tank that can be filled anywhere. Hope this helps Eric.

Just to put it out there, the reason for DOT cert is for transport over the road. Once you leave home with a non-DOT stamped cylinder, unless it is empty, then technically the cylinder is in violation. Puhlease correct me if wrong, but this is what I learned in dive school like 25 yrs ago.

What volumes would be a backpack-portable? I already have a yong geng compressor so filling is not a problem.

You could walk through the woods shooting a tethered gun, correct? Is a special valve needed?

Acecare and Gurlleru are good brands, I have them on my Gauntlets 500cc tanks.

Acecare is not making cylinders that are DOT certified, I saw a few in Alibaba.com, you may want to check them out. They are priced a lot more than the tanks that have Euro certification.
