Are fliers common with CPHP’s?

Oh in that case, I agree. CPHP will indeed be the best value almost every time for 10m work in .22 cal. One and a half cents per trigger pull.

If the Daisy hollow points ever come back in stock at the $7 - $8 price, I plan to load up on them. The newer Spanish-made ones, I mean. They were hitting an aspirin-size bullseye consistently at 30 yards from a couple of my rifles. Example groups from a QB HPA conversion:

The picture on the tin is wrong...the pellets actually look like:

Prior to these, the few times I had tried Daisy pellets they were absolute garbage. Hopefully they will keep the quality up.

Funny you should talk about Crosman Hollow Points. I'm weighing a tin right now (first time I've ever tried to weigh Crosmans. so far, it's nearly an even spread between 14.28 grains to 14.44 grains. lightest so far is 14.14 grains. I use them mostly for breaking in barrels, but just decided to see how good or bad they are. From a consistency standpoint, about a 2% variation so far.

In contrast, the JSB 18.3 grain pellets I weighed last time seemed to mostly fit in the 17.8 to 18.4 grain range. about 6% variation across the board.

I think the problem is the hollow point. Just not as clean as a dome.

If it were me, I'd put my gun on a stand, bag or whatever and shoot the best group I possibly could. Then, understanding that say a group twice the size of your normal expectation is as good as it gets, shoot the cheap stuff and be happy with the larger group till you can get outside and shoot the good stuff. That's just me.

Edit:

Just finished weighing a tin of .22 cal 14.3 grain Crosman Premier Hollow Points.

  • 14.0 grains - 6
  • 14.1 grains - 14
  • 14.2 grains - 125
  • 14.3 grains - 275 (approximately)
  • 14.4 grains - 74
  • 14.5 grains - 7

The majority are 14.3 (weighed to the nearest 10th grain.). So, 95% are within 1% of 14.3 grains. I'm impressed with the weights. I'm not impressed with the skirts. There tends to be a rough edge inside the skirt. That might be one of the problems with accuracy combined with the hollow point.

Eventually, I'll wash and lube the pellets, and shoot to compare with better lead. Someday, I'll report back, but not this week.
