I have a magnum airgun and I plan on mounting my Leupold Freedom VX 3-9X33 EFR on it. I have a nice set of BKL mounts but was wondering if I should use a "Dampa" type mount?

I wouldn't use one personally.
If it shoots rough enough that you can't keep a scope alive on it, I wouldn't want anything to do with it.
Good scope, good mounts, and no wanky janky spongy mounts and you're good to go.
Just my opinion.

I stick to BKL’s. Self centering and that’s the most important thing to me. If I experience scope creep over time (haven’t yet with BKL’s, by God) then I will just adjust the scope.
With a larger heavier scope I do use the double strap ones though. But these days I try to use smaller lighter scopes on breakbarrels anyway.

Depends on what gun you have. I have never needed them on anything I have had including several 48's, 54's, RX1, R1. Several of them tuned to 22 foot pounds. Then again they were all tuned except the RX1. They all had Sports Match mounts or BKL double straps. If I had one past 22 foot pounds I would try one out to see if it worked. They say untuned 48's kill scopes, but I tune all mine as soon as I get them, so I never had that problem.

I ordered a Dampa mount for my hw97. It should arrive Monday. I didn't like the looks of the Diana mount, looked like too much to go wrong with it and I read some reports of bad accuracy with it. I'm not sure about the scope I picked holding up on a springer, some things I saw said yes, some said no. So I figured I'd try the Dampa mount for some added insurance.

Easiest way to know for sure is email Customer Service for the company that made or makes your scope. They'll happily tell you whether it will work or not.

I would trust Leupold brand in taking the punishment of a magnum Springer and it's Lifetime Warranty for added piece of mind and probably use the RWS Lockdown mounts.
I wouldn't recommend using any scope with no Lifetime Warranty on any Springer especially of it's not a Leupold or a Japan made scope.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll stick with the BKL double strap mounts that I now have. The gun is a New FWB Sport - around 13 foot pounds.

Dampa mounts will likely never be a bad idea and may help with longevity of a scope. Some seem to believe that a mount will make up for a non piston gun rated scope and it most certainly will not. I have seen many times over (not saying the OP is) that using xxx mount they have never had a problem with a non piston rated scope. I have never seen or heard of single scope maker saying a mount will supplant their recommendation of non piston rated scope.

I lost a Leupold on my ASP20, it was mounted with standard rings. Leupold stood by their warranty claim and repaired it. That said, I retired it from Springer service and have it mounted on one of my powder burners.
